Harry and Lucille Posted November 6, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 6, 2013 Money flows so easy on the craps table that during a shift, they need more boxes to store your money before it is picked up for the casino. ;)

Bonnie J. Posted November 7, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 7, 2013 Confused? What ships accept cash when playing in the casino? Never seen players handing over cash when they lose or get it when they win. Maybe I don't spend enough time in casino, just walk thru it.

Never seen players handing over cash when they lose or get it when they win. Maybe I don't spend enough time in casino, just walk thru it. The casinos on the ship are the same as most casinos in the world. You walk in, go to a table, put your cash dollars on the table, they give you chips and you play. When you finish playing, if you have chips, you go to the cashier and change your chips for cash.

At the beginning of all table games, you exchange cash for chips. You play with the chips until time to quit. At that time the dealer will total your chips and give you bigger denomination chips that you take to the casino cage.

Lady Chew Posted November 7, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 7, 2013 what ships are those? I know that many slots no longer accept coins, except for some of the $1 machines ... but I've never seen one on a ship where you couldn't put in a bill ... I remember years ago when they first started giving out the tickets rather than coins, that I really, really missed the sound of the coins falling into the bin and the feel of scooping them up. Now that I've gotten used to it, I love getting a ticket instead of getting my hands all dirty from the coins! But iff I had to get tokens from the cashier every time I wanted to play slots ... my slot playing would be cut way back. Maybe that's a good thing! I could spend more time at the roulette wheel ;)

Not sure about slots, I don't play them. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

You go to the cage to collect the cash. They don't give paper slips. You can put cash into the machine to start play.
Lady Chew Posted November 8, 2013 #18 Share Posted November 8, 2013 At table games, when they take your cash, they push it into slots on the table ... into a box beneath the table. Casinos want your $$$ ... and they want to make it easy for people to fork it over. They want people to walk up to the tables or the slots and hand it over. If people had to wait in line at the cashier to get tokens before they could gamble, many of them would simply walk back out of the casino. Sipsey Posted November 8, 2013 #19 Share Posted November 8, 2013 Most of the time tips are given with chips, which go into one of the boxes. I guess it's possible to tip the dealers with cash at a craps table, but I have not seen it done that I can recall. They would probably buy chips with the cash and put it into the box to make it simple. The other box contains the "drop", which is the term casinos use for the amount of cash buy in on a shift or in a whole day. So, unless I miss my guess, most of the time one box contains cash and the other chips. Also, when they bring more chips to the table, the dealer signs a receipt and puts it in the box after verifying the amount.

You also need cash to play the table games like craps, blackjack or three card poker. One box is where the dealers put the cash money when you exchange for chips and the second box is for the tips the dealers receive.

What ship were you on? I've not been on any ship that didn't take paper money. Yes, they no longer take tokens or real quarters or nickels, but every ship I've been on, including Princess, HAL, Celebrity, RCI, Crystal, Seabourn, Silversea, Costa and more always took paper US bills.
