New York Rangers and Celebrity Cruises Announce New Marketing Partnership

Celebrity Cruises to Offer Blueshirt Faithful Access to Rangers Legends Cruise with Rangers Greats Ron Duguay, Adam Graves, Ron Greschner and Stephane Matteau in August 2014

The New York Rangers and Celebrity Cruises today announced a new marketing partnership naming Celebrity Cruises the Official Cruise Line of the Rangers. The affiliation will give Blueshirt fans access to exclusive offers from Celebrity Cruises, including the first-ever Rangers Legends Cruise. In addition, Celebrity Cruises will have a prominent presence at the completely transformed Madison Square Garden during Rangers games.

The Rangers Legends Cruise is a seven-night modern luxury vacation to Bermuda on board the Celebrity Summit departing August 3, 2014 from Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, New Jersey, featuring Rangers greats Ron Duguay, Adam Graves, Ron Greschner and Stephane Matteau. The rare vacation package will include unprecedented access to Rangers stars, as well as exciting activities onboard and ashore, including meet and greet events, shore excursions featuring quintessential Bermuda experiences, private receptions, such as a sunset barbecue on the ship’s pool deck, and more.

The Rangers will host an in-arena shooting contest at five home games throughout the 2013-14 season, offering five fans a chance to win a spot for them and a guest on the Rangers Legends Cruise. Celebrity Cruises also will hold a sweepstakes providing contestants with a chance to participate in an on-ice shooting contest during the Rangers game on April 5, 2014.

“Celebrity Cruises is widely known for excellence and modern luxury, which makes us an ideal fit with the New York Rangers and Madison Square Garden,” said Michael Bayley, president & CEO, Celebrity Cruises. “The team is a premium franchise with an enormous fan-base; and Madison Square Garden attracts loyal, passionate and affluent fans and families,” he continued. "Rangers' games at Madison Square Garden take place in one of our most important markets and represent an unrivaled opportunity to uniquely connect with fans and attendees.”

“We are always looking to work with our partners to provide unique experiences for our fans,” said Ryan O’Hara, president, content distribution and sales, The Madison Square Garden Company. “The Rangers have one of the most passionate and loyal fan bases in sports, and we are excited to partner with Celebrity Cruises, the world’s top-rated premium cruise line, to offer our Blueshirt faithful the unique and thrilling opportunity to go on a cruise with several Rangers legends.”

As part of the new marketing partnership, Celebrity Cruises will be featured on in-Arena dasherboards at The Garden that also will be visible to Rangers fans viewing at home on MSG Network. In addition, Celebrity Cruises will have integration on the Rangers’ team websites; on GardenVision, the new state-of-the-art center-hung multimedia display; as well as on-ice branding and digital signage during the Rangers Legends Cruise shooting contests.

We were on the Summit repositioning cruise and embarkation day they were busy taking lots of publicity photos. Thought it was curious but we were so busy settling in that we soon forgot about the whole thing.

Thanks for the info!

X also has 2 ads on the boards in philly at the Wells Fargo Center where the Flyers play, maybe the also have something with the Flyers as well. I go to the games and don't recall hearing anything about it. We just see the ads, but maybe I missed it. Maybe Celebrity will win in the deal as the Flyers suck this year and people really need a vacation away from them.

I've noticed that as well. The Celebrity "X" logo and "Celebrity Cruises" is right behind the goals. Hard to see them on TV since the Flyers hardly score. Might be part of a larger partnership with the NHL. These partnerships have happened before. NCL worked with MLB and the NFL Alumni for a number of years. Would have past NFL and current MLB players on their cruises. Might be interesting to see what develops with Celebrity.

Celebrity is now the official cruise line of the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League. They are having an Argo's Fan Cruise on the Reflection on February 1st. They had a ongoing contest for a free cruise and the winner was drawn on the last regular game. We were fortunate enough to win it. We had to cancel a scheduled Princess Cruise, but we are looking forward to cruising Celebrity again. So, perhaps this is a new marketing strategy to partner with different sporting teams.

Hi Everyone,

As a Die-Hard NY Mets fan, perhaps Celebrity should consider a marketing alliance with them. Based on the Mets performance over the past decade, it shouldn't cost them more than a few dollars, and a case of X keychains :)

Yeah I know... I should have changed teams years ago, but I guess it proves my loyalty to things I'm passionate about LOL

And this one really got slammed by posters on a famous social media site. Missing from the press release in the link was

the announcement that X was giving all players a free 7 day cruise. Seems many posters thought that offering free cruises to well compensated baseball players was,

shall we say, not a great idea. Celebrity pulled the post from their page in a very short period of time.:D

Hi Drb,

I'm fairly certain the post was pulled strictly due to lousy timing, and not due to the deal itself. The post was made, a very short time after Millennium was having a mechanical failure, and it didnt sit well with their guests.

Whether anyone likes it or not, I suspect we will see more of these partnerships in the future.

Andy, I respectfully disagree, X had no problem putting up a post as soon as they removed the Red Sox announcement. I am not saying that I agree with those who did not like the decision to offer free cruises to the players but first X removed the posters replies and then they removed the post. This occurred in the last week or so, not in April when the press release on Yahoo was posted.

Oh those darn Yankees fans.;). Maybe Celebrity was the lucky charm for the Red Sox this year.

NCL gave a gratis cruise to the athletes who were part of their program on board,. Shirley Jones was a guest speaker on one of my crossings and I bet she received a free cruise. Picking up the cost of the cruise is part of the compensation package. If and how people are paid is based on the value of their work, not on their economic condition. If Celebrity believes that. You can be sure that if Celebrity believes that the appearance of a particular person will increase business they will ante up

Hey Andy, if my Pirates can do it, so can your Mets, God love 'em.

You guys cracked me up :D. Things are looking up this afternoon since they actually scored!

I had been wondering why the Celebrity logo was there since they don't leave out of Philly but I figured it was because they leave out of NYC and Baltimore.

I know my dh would love to cruise with some of those guys.

Cruise lines have been doing this with professional sports teams for a very long time. I was on an NCL cruise that gave free cruises to the Milwaukee Brewers and some MLB umpires---we were friends with one of the umpires and he and his wife told me that they didn't have to pay for their cabin. The Pittsburgh Steelers are doing a cruise on RCI (the prices are more than double a regular cruise---seriously, the prices are totally insane and I'm thinking it's because the regular folk are, in reality, paying for the cabins for the players---for example, a regular balcony cabin is more than double than if you went on the exact same ship/same itinerary on any other week) and the athlete participants are getting their cabins gratis in order to bring more fans on board the ship.

No, the announcement on FB indicated they were offering each player a free Carribbean cruise of their choosing. It was not a "Red Sox players cruise" but simply a free cruise. Frankly, I don't give a da@n but it was funny to see the reaction of the majority of the posters and Celebrity's quick retreat. I should have done a screen shot of the announcement at the time they cut off comments but I didn't.:D

I don't do Facebook so never read the post. However, still seems to be part of a compensation package. Perhaps by now I should no longer be surprised at the number of people who have no idea of how business works.
