February 16, 2014 B2B and B2B on Infinity - Many questions

My husband and I are new to Celebrity. This will be our first time to South America and Antarctica. What do we pack? We will be on the Infinity from February 16, 2014, until March 30, 2014, when it returns to Miami. Do we need any vaccinations? What about transportation from Buenos Aires (EZE) airport to the pier? We haven't booked our flights yet to Buenos Aires, from Miami. ChoiceAir prices seem to be going up and up. At the end of July 2013, the price was $545.85 per person, one way. At the end of August 2013, it had increased to $679.70 per person, one way. Today the price is over $800 per person, one way. Does anyone know if there is a chance the prices for flights may come down before February? We are in Cabin 7173 for the entire 42 days. Has anyone ever been in that cabin?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Airfare has been doing nothing but going up. Just read in the trades to expect fares to go up by 5% to 7% more after the first of the year.

You will have to pack for every eventuality. Around the horn, it could be cold---and very rough. On one cruise I did in that area, we had snow, which was fun for the crew who had never seen snow. But once you get up around Buenos Aires, it will start getting warm, and the farther north you go, it will get hotter and more humid.

No vaccinations are required, but you might want to look into a flu shot and Hepatitus A and B shots.

There are active roll calls for all three of your cruises. Come chat with us and ask your questions. Kitty9 is right, it will be coll-to-cold in Antarctica and around the horn and it will get warm-to-hot as we approach the canal. Layers will be your friend.

Here are links to the roll calls:

I agree. You will have a wide range of weather as you go around the horn. It will be in the high 80's and low 90's in Buenos Aires and Valparaiso and in the 30's 40's and 50's as you go south and it will feel colder with the wind chill factor. I would bring a water resistant jacket, fleece, sweater or sweatshirt, waterproof pants, scarf, hat, and gloves and a couple of pairs of walking shoes for the cool weather.

It is a wonderful itinerary! Pack clothing that can be layered and be prepared for all kinds of weather from very hot to very cold and everything in between.

Going around the horn may be smooth or rough, a matter of luck.

Meclizine is given out free at Guest Relations to anyone who asks for it.

There are also usually green apples, which are supposed to be a good seasickness preventative, available up at the buffet, and they sell sea bands at the liquor store.

Yes, the liquor store is where they have a little section that is like a mini general store where they sell all sorts of odds and ends.

We did the itinerary in the opposite direction, so we took a taxi from our hotel (the Sheraton in Buenos Aires) to the airport.

We did not get any vaccinations at all as none were required, but it would be better to see what your own doctor, who knows your health history, advises.

Cabin 7173 is a nice, regular-sized balcony cabin conveniently located right at the passageway between the aft elevators and stairs.

Its balcony is slightly deeper than regular sized. It is recessed inward and does not extend all the way out to the side of the ship.

In other words, if you stand at the railing and look straight down, you will see the top of the balcony from the suite on deck 6 extending out further below you.

It should not be a problem as you will have a nice, unobstructed view when looking out; it is only that you can't look straight down the side of the ship to the water the way you can from the sweet sixteens.

By far the best way to get from the airport to pier (or hotel if stopping a few days) is to use http://www.taxiezeiza.com.ar/eng . You can pre book it all and their booth is just outside the arrival hall doors...can't miss it! They will even have your name up on a piece of A4 paper so you can point if your Spanish is a bit rusty! Do not, under any circumstances, just get a cab at the kerb. You will be stung!
