Carnival has the cleanest ships!!!

I recently met a lady who just moved to our area along with her husband. They moved here from after having lived in Bermuda for 25 years. In our conversation, I mentioned that we were on a cruise to Bermuda this year and how much we enjoyed the island, and so on.

 

She (in a hestitating way) questioned me as to what cruise line we had sailed with. I told her, Carnival. She smiled a big smile and said she was so glad. She said that her son still lives in Bermuda and his occupation is to work with the cruise ships. One of the things he does is help clean them out at port. She said that Carnival has the cleanest ships of all the cruise lines...no rats and no cockroaches (some cruise lines actually have rats and cockroaches?!??! I'd never thought about that.).

 

I was extremely pleased and encouraged to hear this and thought I would pass it on as some very welcomed and happy news about one of the many things Carnival is doing right. I read some negative things posted sometimes. I'm thrilled that they have the cleanliness issue down. :) Just wanted to send out a word of encouragement today!!

Not that I am found of either rats or cockroaches, but aren't they the types of critters that could possibly/accidentally get on board when supplies are being loaded, thus making it have little to do with cleanliness issues?

Yep and passengers sometimes bring bed bugs too!

Exactly.

The CDC scores they give them are what I would gauge by (that and my own eyes. I've never seen a rat or a roach on a ship and I pray I never do)

The next time your ship is docked, take a look at the large round objects on the dock lines. It took me a while to figure out what those were.

 

I know every CCL ship I've been on has had them, I don't know about others.

 

Yup vermin blockers. Most ships have them but lots get in when loading and off loading as well.

What do they clean out while in those type ports? I thought they carried all trash, etc. back to the homeport with them.

 

On our port stop in Jamaica, I noticed that they were unloading lots of "used" mattresses they must have had in storage on the ship along with big bags (towels maybe?)

Maybe some ships do take it back to homeport

but not on the Southern Caribbean route

 

 

I've seen this sight (picture below) enough times

on the Southern Caribbean route that Victory took, and now Valor..

is a routine weekly (every Thursday) function at Castries, St. Lucia.

I've taken a fairly "deep" behind the scenes tour of a Royal Caribbean ship

with a group of hoteliers

- the ship's Environmental Officer was explaining 'systems' to us..

 

We went thru their grunge dept.

where materials like cardboard and glass are handled until proper disposal can be arranged.

Notice the smaller red can specially for AEROSOL CANS..

They go to extraordinary lengths to liquify other wastes

- then they process it, and store it in large holding tanks

until they get 12+ miles out to sea,

where they are then permitted to discharge what is by then something fairly close to fresh water

yes!! have seen them and know what they are...for some reason my dh knew (no idea how) and explained to me about rats climbing up the ropes and the round things to prevent them from getting up the rope and on board.

In "An American Tale", Fievel and the others just used the gangway.

 

Seems much easier, for sure.

Yes Carnival ships are clean but we find MSC to be the cleanest.
Maybe on the surface, yes. In public areas..

but bear in mind that the OP was talking about a guy

who works behind the scenes on a multitude of.. not just ships

but across many cruise lines as well.

 

I reckon his assessment carries a fair bit of weight..and I'm glad to hear it.
