icat2000 Posted November 21, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2013 I only have one cruise on celebrity so doesn't mean much to me. I think that princess programme is better especially elite.
kaseyoz Posted November 21, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2013 So does that mean you need to go on 149 cruises to go up a tier?
Jacs Posted November 21, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 21, 2013 It seems they haven't updated the part about how you actually earn points yet lol. We did an 18 night in aquaclass, anyone know how many points that would be?
Rare MicCanberra Posted November 21, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted November 21, 2013 It seems they haven't updated the part about how you actually earn points yet lol. We did an 18 night in aquaclass, anyone know how many points that would be? That would be 3 credits. It seems that one credit is turned into 30 points (looking at the proposed tier structure) So your cruise would be 90 points. At least that is how it seems to be.:D

It seems that one credit is turned into 30 points (looking at the proposed tier structure) So your cruise would be 90 points. At least that is how it seems to be.:D Well that sounds better. I was looking forward to gaining another 3 cruise credits in January and then when I read about the levels I thought "what's the point, I would need at least another 48 cruises in a balcony/suite to go up just one tier!!!" So if I am currently on 3 points, then that makes 90 points on the new proposed scale, so another cruise (AQ, 14 nights) gives me another 90 points and I should be select. Does that sound right? Better than before, I needed two more cruises to reach select, not one :) I guess I'll wait for X to update their website and see. (But won't hold my breath, I know how bad they are!!) Thanks for the thread! Cheers, Carina
The_Big_M Posted November 21, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) I wouldn't make that assumption. Although equivalence works out that way, and for fairness I'd say they'll convert existing points that way, it doesn't look like new earnings will be as generous. That's because they say the first level starts from 2 points... which would be a fifteenth of a current tier point. So that suggests you can earn much less than at present. I'd guess it'll start from a point per night for an inside. I'd speculate that "AQ, 14 nights" is worth 28 points in the new program. The_Big_M Posted November 21, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 21, 2013 So does that mean you need to go on 149 cruises to go up a tier? It looks like there will be ways to boost points. There also the possibility there'll be a freebie offer for bookings in the near future... :-)

As Big M said what they convert existing points for and what new points earned are may be different. I am hoping that they are not and that the real change is adding the Elite Plus so that reciprocity with RCI is fairer and the numbers using the lounge will be less.:D

Jacs Posted November 22, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 22, 2013 Man, I wished that would have been the case on our last cruise, DH bought me my wedding anniversary/birthday/Christmas present and an "I'm sorry I work so much here's a present" present in the jewelry shop on board lol. That would have boosted our points nicely. I think it makes sense to convert existing point based on the 1=30 points, but would be pointless to use the same way of calculating points, as it was a big issue people had with the current system. You got the same amount of points for a 3 day cruise as an 11 day cruise, even though it cost you so much more. You could effectively do 5 short cruises and make elite if you booked concierge or higher. They need a system based more on the number of nights sailed, then incentives for when you spend money with the company to earn more points. I agree, perhaps something like points per night and points awarded as per cabin class and bonus points for expenditure on board (drinks, casino, excursions, specialty restaurants etc).:D But initially, they wouldn't want anyone to lose out, so I think the 30 points conversion of all existing credits may be given.:D
The_Big_M Posted November 23, 2013 #16 Share Posted November 23, 2013 Well, status has now been converted, and the new figures partially released. Conversion worked as I expected, and the future earning rate was pretty similar to expectations, although it has more tiers than I thought it would. The overall impact is that it will take longer to progress. Although if you're the kind of person who only travels in the royal suite or similar, you'll be happier. ceejay3377 Posted November 24, 2013 #17 Share Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) Is anyone else having trouble with the X website? I logged in to check my status/points, but it won't display my points or level. It shows my next cruise just fine! (I'm on a Mac and tried with both Firefox and Chrome with the same result). Guess it is just the typical X website, I'll wait a month or two for them to fix it ... ;) Cheers, Edited November 24, 2013 by ceejay3377

It seems their head office codes in IE11 as that's the only one working that I know of. Other browsers, including earlier IE, you have to work around to get your new credits to show. h & m Posted November 25, 2013 #22 Share Posted November 25, 2013 Same for everyone. Changes have been made, and the website now seems OK. We received an email overnight - our 13 cruise credits converted to 390 cruise points, so we remain elite. I'm very happy that Elites retain the same benefits, we got to enjoy them this April for the first time. The evening drinks were enjoyable, but for me (not a big drinker) I loved breakfast in the Tuscan Grill, and I am happy the breakfast remains on the list of benefits. It definitely will take longer now to accrue points to the next level, points per day range from 2 for inside/ocean view, 5 points for CC/AQ, to many more points per day for high end cabins. Hilary :)

Perhaps I will become a squeaky wheel on the next cruise.:D
Gerko Posted November 26, 2013 #24 Share Posted November 26, 2013 The program is fine if you've already reached a decent level but its horrible for those that haven't. A new member in an outside cabin will have to do 75 nights just to move off the bottom level and to reach the new top tier called Zenith they would have to stay on board for over 4 years! Its clearly geared towards the wealthiest passengers. 2 points per night for an outside cabin versus 18 points per night for a top suite. From my reading Celebrity has decided to reward wealth rather than loyalty. The majority of its mainstream customers will be worse off.
