I'm scared of Sunshine

Originally I booked Sunshine because I was so excited to try 2.0. Now after reading all the reviews that Carnival is just cheapening things and only seems to care about getting in your wallet, I am so sad, thinking I will no longer like my beloved Carnival. I mean things like taking away my free pre dinner sushi, fish and chips and live steel drums music are practically deal breakers for me. Then everyone says the food is not as good anymore (in an effort to get you to pay a surcharge for the restaurants with the better food, something I really hate). What's next, taking away my beloved melting cake? I don't think a few changes of 2.0 can make up for the things that are now gone. I am sure wishing I booked one of the pre conversion ships :(

Take along lots of smiles, an open mind and a good attitude and you'll have a great cruise:)

We have been on 14 carnival cruises since 2002......and we were on the Sunshine in September for a quick Mediterranean cruise....FEAR NOT....the ship is awesome, and you will not miss anything. Make sure you eat at JiJi for dinner.....it is awesome. We would go again in a heartbeat!!!

Just got back from the Sunshine Transatlantic (spent 16 days on her) and let me also assure you that there is nothing to fear. The ship is lovely. I thought the food was even better than the last two Carnival cruises I have been on, and I also found that JiJi's was truly superb. The sushi now being served in the Bonsai Sushi Bar is far superior to the free stuff we used to get. I thought the entertainment was hit and miss--the Rock and Roll Time Machine (live band) was excellent, as were the solo acts. The Playlist Production shows left a lot to be desired. The comedians were hilarious. Our room was lovely. Some things I wish were different--some of the corridors are a bit tight, but that's about it. Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana

Cantina, killer water slides and superior outdoor spaces really make it a fun ship to sail on.

Food still very good, entertainment is what I am disappointed with lately.
He's quite right.

The only thing you'll really find that's Changed with a capital C

is the Shows on board.

Other than that STOP READING REVIEWS!

They're all false, both the overly-good ones and the overly-bad ones.

You're doing yourself a great dis-service by reading reviews.

You shouldn't read them and shouldn't write them, either

lest you depress someone else!

I've been on 19 Carnival cruises, and I've been working my way up over the years. I started with an inside cabin on the MS Holiday, then moved up to an ocean-view on a Fantasy-class ship, then a balcony on a Spirit-class ship. Next was a suite on the Splendor. At that point, I decided that suites weren't worth the money and stuck with balcony cabins for a while. I tried a couple of Conquest-class ships, and really loved those. On those Conquest-class ships I really felt like I was seeing Carnival at near-perfection. Soon, the Dream-class was the latest and greatest and I got to experience the Magic and later the Breeze.

What I'm trying to share here is that I worked my way up the Carnival fleet... and it was fascinating to see the improvements from one class of ships to the next. With each new class, things got better. I could just imagine how the people in charge had cruised on each current class of ship, asked themselves how things could be improved, and then integrated those ideas in to the next class. It was easy to see the improvements in each class over the previous one.

I haven't cruised on the Sunshine yet, but I will soon. I've been reading everything people have written about her, gone over the deck plans, looked at a million pictures, and watched videos posted to YouTube. I can see a lot of little improvements... where somebody in charge cruised on the Dream-class and asked themselves "how could this be better?"

For example, if you've ever tried to sit and listen to a live band in Ocean Plaza on the Dream or the Magic or the Breeze... the setup is a little awkward. There's traffic flow right in front of the band. On the Sunshine, they fixed that... with seating right in front of the band, exactly as it should be.

The location of the sports bar is really awkward on the Dream-class, too. I see they've fixed that on the Sunshine... putting it off in its own space rather than sticking it in the middle of a busy casino.

The Serenity retreat is too small on all the Carnival ships... and they've fixed that on the Sunshine.

They also made some nice improvements to the setup of the buffet area, and also totally re-designed La Cucina Del Capitano.

They even put a Coca Cola vending machine out at Sports Square. I think that's a great idea.

I can't wait to see it all in person. None of it is revolutionary... it's just a continuing evolution where Carnival takes a look at things and tries to figure ways to make it better in the next new ship.

It's going to be REALLY interesting to see what they do with the Carnival Vista!

You will be glad you went for it and experienced the 2.0 The food was great. Guy's is not to be missed. WCMC is too popular--they won't take it away. When I asked for Bitter n Blanc and Grand Marnier Souffle, they assured me they were coming and they did come. JiJi is not much of an upcharge ($6??) and everyone says it's worth it (I don't do sushi). They had a spot on Ocean Plaza called "The Taste Bar" with samples of food that they serve so you can try just a spot to see if you like it. One night it was Sushi. During the day, the Taste Bar is a soup and salad (made to order) bar.

There are a LOT of false rumors being spread. Ignore them. I'm currently on Carnival Sunshine, sad because our cruise is over tomorrow.

Fish and Chips is still on the same ships it always was.

We will be on the Sunshine the week before you (Jan. 12th), and looking foward to it. We were on the Conquest last January. It already had the 2.0 upgrades. The menus in the main dining did not change just because 2.0 came aboard. Also, Fish and Chips was still on the Conquest, even after 2.0. Not sure if the Destiny ever had it??

I wouldn't get too worried if I were you. Some things may have changed, but from what I've seen and read posted on the boards here and elsewhere, you will have a great time.

We're planning to sail on the Sunshine next December and I promise you we will enjoy every minute of it! Any time I'm not at work and there is someone else cooking, cleaning up and encouraging me and DW to just be lazy in general, I'm a happy soul!:D

We are on the sunshine now and heading up the river. The ship is great. The staff was awesome. The food was good which I'd take with grain of salt since everyone has their likes n dislikes. Yes the ship has a lot of people on it now but there was always things to do in different areas and the lines were not long at all for anything we wanted to do. The shows for us, were really good. Again, that's our opinion based on what we like. The comedy shows were really good. Some better than others. The cruisers were nicer this cruise than the ones in the past. So for us this cruise ranks very high on our list outta 11. We would sail her again in a heartbeat.

You say that "are practically deal breakers for me." well its really not a deal breaker because you are still going, in that case go with a open mind and just by some chance you might still have a good time, or you can go with a closed mind then you will deffentaly have a bad time. but the choise is yours. The only person you will have any effect on is your self and youe family.

A vacation is what you make of it, good or bad its up to you!

There are a LOT of false rumors being spread. Ignore them.

I'm currently on Carnival Sunshine, sad because our cruise is over tomorrow.

I've long suspected that.

Deliberately-negative rumours...trying to put people off

and/or make Carnival look bad.

I must be incredibly lucky

because I've never been disappointed on any of the ships I've cruised on.

It's easy to believe that some folks board their ship with a spiteful mind,

looking to pick pick pick on any little thing that isn't up to their unrealistic expectations of Heavenly

or what they perceive to be Heavenly. I don't get it.

Life is short. Enjoy it. Do so while there's still time ;)

Waiting to get off the Sunshine right now. Wonderful trip! Wish I could stay on for the next cruise. The food was great and with all of the options there was rarely a line to stand in for food even at peak times. Ship is beautiful. Any odors or buckets collecting water that I've read about was non existent.
