MrsNancyG Posted December 30, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2013 Hey all, when you disembark in NY are there taxis or whatever just sitting around waiting to take people to JFK or would I behoove myself by prebooking a car service to get us to JFK? Thanks in advance! Happy sails to you...
CruiserBruce Posted December 30, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2013 Taxi rule #1- go to the fares. A ship in port = fares. Secondly, from all of all visits to NYC, we have come to the conclusion there are more taxis on the streets of NYC then private cars. So, no, you won't have any problems getting a taxi. njhorseman Posted December 30, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) You can do either, but the advantages of booking a car service are that you usually get a little nicer vehicle and you won't have to wait on the taxi dispatch line for your ride. When a large cruise ship disembarks sometimes the taxi line can be long. A reserved car service will just pick you up at the designated location and time without your having to stand on line. Normally they ask you to call their dispatch office when you're ready to be picked up. Prices are very similar. There's a flat rate taxi fare of $52.50, plus tolls and tip, for trips between JFK and Manhattan in either direction. Car service fares from the larger companies such as Dial 7 and Carmel Limo are about the same. Edited December 30, 2013 by njhorseman
marco Posted December 30, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2013 We have NEVER returned to NY from a cruise where there have not been a "parade" of cabs waiting for fares. You won't have any problem getting one.
