Port to JFK Question

You can do either, but the advantages of booking a car service are that you usually get a little nicer vehicle and you won't have to wait on the taxi dispatch line for your ride. When a large cruise ship disembarks sometimes the taxi line can be long. A reserved car service will just pick you up at the designated location and time without your having to stand on line. Normally they ask you to call their dispatch office when you're ready to be picked up.

Prices are very similar. There's a flat rate taxi fare of $52.50, plus tolls and tip, for trips between JFK and Manhattan in either direction. Car service fares from the larger companies such as Dial 7 and Carmel Limo are about the same.
