Are drinks watered down????

In my experience on Summit in October, I certainly thought my frozen drinks were watered down. I didn't mind, since I was playing poker in the casino and it works to my advantage to look like I'm getting inebriated when I'm not, but I was surprised.

There were several nights I had 6-7 mudslides after dinner (calories on vacation don't count, right?) and didn't feel tipsy at all. Now, I am not a lightweight, but that's after three glasses of wine at dinner, too.

I'll guess 4 or 5 ounces.

You're right. Similarly, if you fill a glass with chipped or crushed ice and then add a couple of ounces of scotch, you'll dilute the scotch by about 1/2 by the time you drink it.

My experience is that they don't water down the alcohol, but the ice dilutes the drinks.

Q: If you pour two oz of vodka into a shaker filled with chipped ice and then shake it to make a martini served up, how many oz of drink do you pour out of the shaker?

A: try it...you'll be surprised by the answer

I don't know the answer, but I do know the bartenders' trick of over shaking a drink to make the ice melt. That's more common nowadays as restaurants and bars are looking to cut costs anyway they can

At a cost of 50 cents or less a shot, why would they water down the alcohol. Watering down the ice would be profitable.

I agree and ship's duty free alcohol is way less than $0.50 a shot. I've bought duty free alcohol in liter or 35 fl.oz. which equals 28 one and a quarter ounce shots bottles in the Caribbean for as low as $2.50 for rum and vodka. Whiskey and other types were not much more and the stores are making a profit selling at these prices. Even onboard our last cruise we bought Crown Royal Cdn whiskey for $17 a liter and the rum and vodka was selling at about half of that and the ship is making a huge profit on these sales. Likely the mix for fancy or fruity drinks costs the ship more than the alcohol.

In fact DW has had it happen a few times on a duty free islands like St. Martin, Tortola or St. Thomas where one drink has almost floored her because it was mostly alcohol because the mix was the expensive part.

All the drinks we've had onboard have been fine, even the free ones at X Elite and RC Diamond social hours.:)

Oh I wish, just topping a mighty 100lb I spend the whole cruise being told be careful or you won't last 'til dinner. Watered down drinks would be good for me. I have been adopted a couple of times by the bar staff on the sunset bar and they think it is nice to give me a bit extra!

I just can't win... That isn't a complaint.

Cheers, h.

Hi Everyone,

We've sailed on Celebrity many times. In full disclosure, I'm not a drinker. However, I usually sail with family members who enjoy alcoholic beverages. Not 1 single time have they ever complained of a watered down drink. If anything, I've heard of drinks being too strong !

Additionally, I tend to hear many complaints while onboard, as folks seek me out to talk, as if I can do something about it - which of course, I cannot. While I've heard virtually every complaint known to man (lol), I've never heard one person mention watered down drinks. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I highly doubt that Celebrity is going out of their way to do so.

To the OP : I'm sorry you felt this was the case. Perhaps it's simply a matter of one's tastes ?

We are just off a crossing from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale. Each evening before dinner we enjoyed our cocktails and after dinner our night caps. We have sailed on Celebrity a couple of time a year for the last 10 years and have never felt that we were short changed in the bars or anywhere else on the ship for that matter. Just sayin.

I ordered a beer thru the classic package. The BT opened the bottle, pour some out and then added some water to the bottle. I asked him what he was doing and he said that because I had the classic he had to water it down. :D

🍻
