Another Guarantee Question

Booked my inside guarantee on POA for May, 2014 with an on-line TA. Yes, I know it's not going to be a balcony but I'm still paying more than some balconies on other ships. Would really like to get an upgrade, even if it's obstructed view, but reading some old posts here, some say that only past passengers or cabins booked directly with NCL are offered upgrades. What are any thoughts on this.

First of all, one can't compare POA prices to other ships - the market is completely different and POA sails pretty much always full.

Secondly, there are also complete cruise newbies that have gotten calls from upgrade fairy - calls are very rare (we never have gotten one) but they do happen. For guarantee upgrades, nobody can tell you how it goes.

How many people in the room?

As Demonyte said POA is a different market(one of the very few cruise ships that travel it's entire cruise within US waters and therefore having to comply with different rules) so you can't compare apples to bananas.

As to the upgrade fairy...I have been a GTY many times and only a few times have been upgraded, and mostly within the cabin type I had chosen. example is going for the lowest price Balcony. You won't get a cabin lower than that, so no inside or windows, however you may get a room next to a service elevator nobody wants. And there is a chance you might get a small bump(balcony obstructed to low level unobstructed view). I would always take a GTY cabin I would be happy with and not expect any more than that. I have booked through NCL/Agents/and third party sites using GTY and had not any more or less "upgrades" with any of them.

Your chance for an upgrade on this cruise is slim to none.

NCL has the entire market for this cruise so they can charge accordingly. Book this cruise one year out and watch the price increase, for us we've seen price rise $800 pp balcony. This cruise also does not have a casino so NCL needs to make those revenues up.
