The 10 or 20% depends if the CAD price ends in 80 or 90 cents, not when you book it.

We're sailing on Sept 25.

Our 'Base Fare' (line one on our invoice) ends in .80.

The breakdown by passenger ends .90.

Based on your experience, which ending is the 10% rate and which is the 20% rate, and wondering how you learned this?

My understanding is that any cruise sailing after October /15 it will be 20%.

That's what I was told when I purchased OBC for my cruise last month

That sounds correct to me - my sailing in December is at 20% even though it was booked before and at the same rate as my sailing this weekend which was 10%!

What do you mean if the CAD price ends in 80 or 90 cents when you booked it?

I do NOT understand that statement.

Thanks and Have a great cruise

If your price pp ends in 90 then you are paying 10% - if the price pp ends in 80 then you are paying 20%.

Same thing.. your price pp ending in 90 means you paid 10%. When you add the two together 90+90 you will get a number that ends in 80 which is what your invoice says. Plus you're sailing before the price increase so it's at 10% pp.

Okay, our individual price per person ends in .90. Adding them together, ends in .80.(I did the math!(lol)) Our sailing date is Oct 28, 2015.

Not sure but this math seems to add up to??????????????

Have a great cruise:

Question... when you have a mix of OBC sources including future cruise OBC, share holder benefit OBC, and OBC purchased in advance, is any and all of it available to be cashed out if unused? Do they debit the gift OBC first so if you don't use it all you can still cash out the OBC you paid for?

I'm just wondering how it works because I seem to think that some OBC cannot be cashed out while clearly any OBC you pay for in advance can be.

Anyone know?

The only credit that can be refunded back to your CC is purchased OBC. The other can be cashed out thru the casino. Don't know the process but has been discussed in the forums.

Sorry, but what do you mean by "refunded back to your CC"? And what do you mean by "other can be cashed out thru the casino"? I assume some OBC is non-refundable, meaning there's no way to get any of it in cash as a balance. However, you seem to be implying it can be cashed out through the casino? True?

If I buy $500 OBC in advance and I also have $125 in non-refundable OBC from future cruise, and $250 non-refundable shareholder benefit OBC, then I have a total $875 in OBC. If I spend $600 on board, can I get the other $275 back? Do they chip away at the non-refundable OBC first, so if you have a balance, it's the OBC you paid in advance that you can cash out?

Sorry if this sounds confusing.

The non refundable gets used first . Any unused refundable OBC gets put back on the credit card used for the on board account . If you a cash account they will mail you a cheque in about 3 weeks.

Do you mark down for your Onboard account -

Princess to do the rate of exchange for your Onboard account and charge your credit card in Canadian funds

or

leave your Onboard account in US$ and let your credit card do the rate of exchange?

I always do the second option. The first is done by a non Princess company . They charge the current exchange rate plus a 3% service fee.

I have a cruise booked for Nov 2015. The Princess exchange rate at that time for purchasing OBC is 20%. Pretty much the same as the current exchange rate.

Does anyone know if Princess adjusts their rate as the CDN dollar grows stronger (if it does) in order for their rates to be more appealing? Otherwise I imagine the incentive would be diminished for those to pre-purchase OBC thru Princess.

thanks!

Hi fellow Canucks

I'm little late to this party but I never had a question or comment to make before...

Now I have a question/comment;)

A friend of mine in Australia is always sending me sample fares for various cruises we are discussing. When I compare her AUD$ fare to the same cruise I could buy here in CAD$, the difference is staggering, more than just a few bucks, we're talking 15 to 20% cheaper for the AUD$ fare.

Any idea why? The CAD$ and AUD$ are trading at fairly close to 1/1, so I am at a loss to explain why.

Australian cruises probably include gratuities or equivalent in the price .

The AUD$ fare, all taxes included, is 15-20% CHEAPER than the CAD$ fare with taxes/fees added.

So if gratuities are also included in that fare, then that makes the AUD$ fare an even BETTER deal.

I guess I should add that this doesn't really change anything for me, I am simply curious to see if anyone can make sense of this. The only explanation I can come up with so far that makes remotely any sense is that AUD$ fares were calculated at a different time than CAD$ fares, say when the AUD$ was strong against the US$, and CAD$ fares were calculated more recently after the CAD$ took a dive back to $0.81.

So just wanted to update you on a few things from my coastal on Golden. I pre-purchased $300 obc and was charged $330 Canadian (yay). I knew I would not spend this amount on a 3 day cruise, but planned on using the left over cash while in San Francisco (better exchange rate than using credit card or getting US cash in Canada). I asked at the front desk and was told that they would not give me the excess but would mail a cheque. I asked if there was any other way of getting it in cash - told nope, no way. Then I remembered someone on here had said to open a casino account. I have never stepped foot in the casino before so had no clue what to do. Luckily, the staff in there were awesome, helped me set up an account, transfer $200 from my onboard account, then cashed it in for US dollars in cash. Easy. Never once gambled, no fees, got my cash! Yay!

What you are not factoring in is that prices are constanntly changing and 5 different people could look at the same cruise and see 5 different prices because of loyalty levels, country of residence, exchange rates that dont relate to the true exchange rate at the moment etc.

From what i have seen they don't adjust rates just because their rate no longer looks very good. The rates seem to be set in the spring based on their best guess of what rates are and will do in the future and it becomes effective for cruises from September onwards.

We have already been through a period of time several years ago when we were much better to book in US dollars since the Canadian dollar was much closer to the US dollar in value than the Princess rate.

Is there a limit you can add to a casino account? Limit to daily withdrawal?

I thimk there was a daily withdrawal limit of $3000 unless you get special permision, unlimited amount you can add or purchase

So, you take from shipboard credit ..move to casino account....and withdraw as cash no questions asked?

Yup - worked like a charm. I had $300 pre-purchased OBC. I put my cruise card in a slot machine in the casino, moved $200 over to casino account. I then went to the desk in the casino and asked them to cash me out - $200 in cash. No questions asked.:D
