GrammyKati Posted January 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Can you take a mini Keurig with auto shut off on a cruise?
2pbears Posted January 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2014 I'm not sure but I don't see why not as it only operates for a short time and then shuts itself off. We always travel on land with our mini Keurig but that seems like a lot to drag along on a cruise, especially if you have to fly to your port. Potstech Posted January 30, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Would love to see one in each cabin. Then you could bring Kcups with you OR pay a high fee in the ships stores. But really would love to see them though.
AE_Collector Posted January 31, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I have no idea but I sort of suspect that they would frown on this. Lots of possibilities for something like this to mess up and overheat, melt, cause a fire and/or consume enough power to blow breakers etc. Terry
Liz54 Posted January 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 31, 2014 No. No heat generating appliances except for hair stuff.
robtulipe Posted January 31, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 31, 2014 IMO a Keurig wouldn't be allowed as it has a heater thus similar to auto shut off kettle which is not allowed.
skf Posted January 31, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2014 If the auto shut-off malfunctions (and they do) it could cause a fire. I am sure in the interest of safety k-cups are a no-can-do. BTW, I always unplug my coffee maker at home when finished. Steve
AE_Collector Posted January 31, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 31, 2014 We all know where appliances like this are made and most consumers comment regularly on what junk most of it is and most of these comments about it are because it breaks and malfunctions much sooner than we think it should considering we are in the 21st century. Enough said. Terry
SoCalWave Posted January 31, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I bring a small French press and some ground coffee. It's not quite as convenient as my keurig at home, but it makes a great cup of coffee easily with some hot water from the buffet. Enough said. Terry Have had one for two years now. Love it and have had not one problem with it. Had a mini at work and had not one problem with it. So I guess my junk is doing what it was designed to do. Can you tell us when it should break down?
GrammyKati Posted February 1, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Thanks for all of your replies, I will have to "like" coffee syrup again. Oh well not a biggie as I will be having fun!:)
Potstech Posted February 1, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) I always bring single serving packs of Folgers Instant coffee. A cup of hot water snd I'm ready to go. Please there is always the International Cafe on many of the shops. No need to drink coffee from syrup. AE_Collector Posted February 1, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Can you tell us when it should break down? Unpredictable! When you least expect it? You are missing the point. I took a brand new four outlet power bar on the last cruise. Removed it from the package on board. About two weeks into the cruise, arriving back to our room I smell burnt plastic in the hall. Our door is open and three crew members are in there unplugging the power bar. It had melted after being just fine for two weeks with nothing but a cell phone plugged into it. And a power bar has no heaters in it. Point is, stuff can happen and anything that uses considerably more current (heaters or motors inside) than what chargers use is increasing the chances considerably of something going wrong. Orangefan Posted February 1, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Thanks for all of your replies, I will have to "like" coffee syrup again. Oh well not a biggie as I will be having fun!:) I was on the Coral Princess in December . I thought the coffee in the Horizon Court and MDR was much better than usual. I not only had hot coffee but made iced coffee also. Sali
PiraticalGirl Posted February 1, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Have you tried the single serve instant coffee packets where u just add hot water? Starbucks, Folgers, Maxwell House, Mount Hagen and Tasters Choice all have them and they're super packable :) Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
Potstech Posted February 1, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Did not miss the point at all. We were discussing keurig and you insinuated they were junk. Sorty you had a problem with your outlets. I alwsys take one of those too and never had a problem with it either. Nnope no point missed.
dcrow72 Posted February 1, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 1, 2014 I brought a single cup regular coffee maker without a hot plate with me and it was not a problem at all. It would be the same for the mini Keurig. No hot plate, makes one cup and shuts off automatically. If I had one, I would bring it too!

poseypedlr@aol.com Posted February 1, 2014 #21 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Work for cruise lines at the piers in Galveston. They will take up extension cords, power strips, coffee pots, and any electrical products and return them to you at the end of cruise. Only hair irons and curlers can be taken on. They are fire hazards the cruise lines say.
Colo Cruiser Posted February 1, 2014 #22 Share Posted February 1, 2014 This is incorrect information. Princess does not confiscate coffee makers or power strips or extension cords. They are taken on all the time.
poseypedlr@aol.com Posted February 1, 2014 #23 Share Posted February 1, 2014 That may be true for Princess. This was true for Disney however. Princess sails from Port of Houston in this area.
Iamcruzin Posted February 1, 2014 #24 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Maybe this product would be allowed. It's light weight and inexpensive. I have been using this since they first came out in the late 80's.
