I always put a a4 sheet inside my case with the room number on just in case

That is a good idea. I will have to remember this next month.

As for the paper tags we have never had any problems. Actually my daughter still has hers on from our cruise in June and that suitcase has traveled around since then. :)

As most people have posted............

Clear wide packing tape on the front of the labels laminates them just fine. Instead of staples, we use a small strip of masking tape to hold the ends together. And (of course) put tags on just before taking shuttle/cab to the ship.

I bought laminating sheets in staples and just put the paper tags inside and folded them over. They seal nicely and stapled them around the luggage handle. Worked perfectly..

On our last cruise I had to call NCL about something totally unrelated to luggage tags. As I was speaking to the agent I happened to mention I wasn't thrilled with printing them out and her exact words to me were "Don't bother, get them from the porters at the pier, they are much thicker and durable

I printed mine on Avery adhesive full page lables.

You can actually staple them together as well as adhesive

then they can be adhesively taped to the luggage as well

I do like the lamination idea though

Try the avery's because you can both staple and stick!

Fun for kids of all ages.

My niece and nephew wanted to help out but I told them to go out and play with their friends instead.

Well scrapbooking and card making comes in handy for a cruise also.

I just look in my stash of items and found two sizes of book mark cases....just like the ones posted here from Amazon.

LOL I have a bunch!

I laminate the tags and then use a plastic cable tie. Never have had a problem.

Exactly what we did; laminated, hole punch, cable tie. Worked like a charm!

Printed out paper tags at home many times. If you fold them over as intructed and then staple them together on your luggage we have never had an issue of them falling off. They always seem very secure and you would have to work hard to get them to 'fall off'.

For those of you that use a stapler -CAUTION- in removing the baggage tag!

"Do Not Just Yank the tag off the handle least you receive a staple sliver" !

Especially if you have reinforced the tag with packing (cellophane) tape.

Use a scissors or small pocket knife (if it has not already been confiscated by

the keystone cops) to cut off the tag.

So you are a smarty type of person and puts the irremovable tag on your

baggage - now how the heck are you getting it off for the return trip tags ?

Another note - print or get extra tags - 1 to go on a handle somewhere on the

baggage - put another one inside if the bag loses its handle with tag - and if

the luggage has more than one handle put another one there (the roll-about

bags usually have handles on the top and sides) making it easier for the crew

muscling the bags around to determine where it is supposed to go and then

when leaving the ship for you to claim your baggage !

Put some colored ribbons or belts around your baggage to make your bags

more identifiable for claiming especially if using the standard communist

medium size BLACK bag used by all comrades.

Spent nearly 29 years in airline service; lots of fun helping solve Lost & Found

problems - this back in the days before GPS and tracking scanning tags !

Help prevent lost bags due to your own failing.

Hint checking in WAY TOO early and at the very last minute are times that

make you prone to mishandling !

If after a few hours of boarding your baggage is not available at your cabin

door - make a trip down to the Registration/Pursers Desk and start the ball

rolling for an inquiry. You can call by ships phone but will get better service

by visiting personally.

Now as for you alcohol smugglers be prepared to visit the 'Naughty Room'

for retrieving your suspected baggage which could explain why the bags were

not delivered directly to your cabin door.

Another thing if you had soft-drink beverages and did not get them delivered

to your cabin - check and see if they had prohibited handling at the Port of

embarkation - from what I have read here at CC there are some ports that

the stevedores will not handle this ??? Reason: they did not get their caffeine

cut of the action ? LOL !

The more cruises that you take the more apt you are able to solve these minor

problems with little or no help.

On my first cruise the bag tag came off my bag and a visit to the Pursers Desk

resolved the problem (my bag was waiting there for me).

All the other cruises have been perfect and uneventful as regards baggage

handling.

Every port I have been at the porters just had strips of copy paper, not durable at all. And they were using a pencil to write in the cabin number.

I made a big deal about printing our Breakaway tags and using packing tape. They were sturdy suckers! But then while we were in NYC we got an upgrade so those painstakingly made tags were useless. The Hotel clerk was not happy to let me use his printer to make new ones...
