1 day pass or charlie ticket/card Boston

We (4 adults) will be in Boston pre-cruise for 1 day in June. Which would be easier/better to use so that we can visit as many places as possible?

Thought about the HoHo trolleys but that probably would be more expensive.

Appreciate any advice as we aren't experienced subway riders......:)

The Hoho bus will be more expensive than using a Charlie Card, but it really depends on how many places you want to see and how far apart they are. The subway is a good way to get around, but in reality Boston is a walking city. The Hoho bus works well in Boston because it is small and can negotiate the narrow streets of downtown, the North End, and Beacon Hill.

What exactly is on your list for Boston? A lot of folks enjoy the Freedom Trail.

Please provide more details so we can make suggestions.

We are interested in at least part of the Freedom Trail, North end area (good Italian meal), Aquariam and Harborwalk area, Fanueil Hall areas mostly. Currently booked at Embassy Suites by Logan.

The 1 day pass would work ok I think, but looking for advice....

The areas you mention are all close together. No real need for the Hoho trolley or even a day pass on the T.

Embassy Suites will drop you off at the T and you can ride the Blue Line to Aquarium. If you want to visit the Aquarium, do that first. Then walk along the Harborwalk into the North End to find the Old North Church and Paul Revere House and have lunch. Then walk back along the Freedom Trail to the Faneuil Hall area and explore that. If you have time you can walk up to the Boston Common and back to Government Center to pick up the Blue Line back to your hotel.

A day T pass costs $11 and you have to use it 5-6 times to save money. Instead you want to get a plastic Charlie Card when you get to the T station if you can. Look around for a T employee and ask. Rides cost $2 with the Charlie Card and $2.50 with a Charlie Ticket. Your group can share a single card - just load $16 onto it to cover 8 rides for 4 people.

Since the distances are so small between all these places, it would be cost effective to grab a cab at any point to go to your next destination.

Ooooh - that's good to know. Then if you're in the Boston Common area, going to either the State or Bowdoin T stations would be an option. The State station is right next to the Freedom Trail Visitor Center and the Old South Meeting House.
