yvet Posted February 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2014 As the title says i need your help: What would you do? We are sailing on the Radiance for an 18 night cruise. We have been upgraded to a D1 stateroom #9652 with partially obstructed view portside aft (totally at the end). Pro: deck 9 only 1 deck up to our friends staterooms (they are at 10) and 1 deck above the other room. Cons: obstructed view (it's only the window washer so really only partially obstructed. At this point there is also available a D2 stateroom #8672. Also aft but at the rear so that room has a enlarged balcony. Pro: enlarged balcony Con: 2 decks up to our friends staterooms. To my knowledge there is no difference between a D1 and D2 exept from the fact how many people it sleeps. Am i correct?? What would you do keep the assigned room or change?? Please also state why you choose one over the other... Thank you so much!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app The difference between D1 and D2 on Radiance ships is just number of passengers they can sleep. I would say an enlarged balcony with no obstruction is a huge benefit, even if you are a little further from your friends (decks aren't that high, I find walking up/down two decks to be pretty minimal). ryansmith18 Posted February 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2014 I would definitely take the larger balcony. I've cruised with friends before, but their stateroom location didn't matter much. We never wanted to hang out in our cabins together when we could be at a bar or on the lido deck, so to me personally the location of my friends' stateroom isn't really something I'd have in the "pro" category. pspercy Posted February 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2014 8672, no brainer, especially for a long cruise like that. Get it before someone else does.
cb at sea Posted February 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 25, 2014 The window washing ladder and platform are ABOVE your head....even tho you can see it, it doesn't obstruct your view AT ALL. Just so you know!
ehfl Posted February 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2014 I would take the larger balcony. I don't see why location would matter, as there's nowhere you can't get to on the ship in a few minutes max.
Rare xpcdoojk Posted February 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Balcony acreage is more important than any other feature of a cabin.... so go with bigger aft balcony. jc
PCWalton1 Posted February 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) 8672, no brainer, especially for a long cruise like that. Get it before someone else does. Ditto. Love the aft cabins on Radiance class. :D Also the con of "Con: 2 decks up to our friends staterooms." isn't really an issue as whether it is one deck or two you still have to walk back to the stairwells. :) Edited February 25, 2014 by PCWalton1
PCWalton1 Posted February 25, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 25, 2014 This was taken two deck up from 8672 (JS 15602). Need I say more? :D
Rare DCPIV Posted February 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Yep. I'd go for the larger balcony. One deck is nothing, unless you have problem with stairs. D
CruisersfromMD Posted February 25, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 25, 2014 I would agree with others - go for the AFT. If you have never had an aft before you will love it. It is so peaceful looking out over the wake of the ship. Also, since you are at the back, you don't get as much wind as you are protected a bit from the sides of the ship. Enjoy! nolesrule Posted February 25, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Also the con of "Con: 2 decks up to our friends staterooms." isn't really an issue as whether it is one deck or two you still have to walk back to the stairwells. :) Exactly what I was thinking. Although that is a pretty long walk from the aft of the ship. But in the grand scheme of things, it's not that bad.
debshomespun Posted February 25, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Go for the aft! Extra walking = more desserts!! :D :D We have had several afts, and the extra balcony space is "PRICELESS"
crookedhalo Posted February 25, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 25, 2014 okay, gotta ask. You said you were upgraded. Was this a free upgrade? Because if it was I think they would want to charge you the difference between the category you booked and paid for and the D2. I know you can switch cabins within categories but not too sure about downgrading an upgrade?:p
DonnaK Posted February 25, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 25, 2014 take the deck 8 aft.
