Gluten free

We have a few more questions if you don't mind.

1- Has anybody ordered room service breakfast and know if they have gluten free bread/toast/rolls?

2- Do they offer gluten free pizza?

3- Are there any gluten free desserts for dinner?

4- Past 11pm do they offer fries or other gluten free items to eat?

My son (13) and I are both gluten free. Carnival was fantastic and really exceeded my expectations on our last cruise. We cruised on the Elation in Nov 2012. I am sure they are even better now. I just told the dining room that we were gluten free and every night they came over with a menu of the next night's dinner. They explained which ones were safe and then we were able to choose which entrees we wanted.

1 - Yes they have gluten free bread. No rolls or pastries. 2 - Yes they have pizza. They will make it fresh at the pizza bar and you get the entire pizza not just a piece. 3 - Yes but just one, chocolate molten lava cake. 4 - this one I am not sure, I just don't remember.

I know my cruise was from awhile ago but I hope that helps! We are sailing on March 29th on the Dream. If you sail after me I can give you more recent updates :)

I've done my last 10 cruises or so after a Celiac diagnosis. Carnival does a pretty good job with it. They've improved their bread a GREAT deal recently. The pizza is....meh. It takes about 15 minutes for them to make.

I've never gotten a sandwich at the deli but I did get a guys burger on a GF bun and it was REAL bad. Keep in mind, you will need to pre-order for the dining room for breakfast, lunch or dinner. At breakfast you can get pancakes or French toast. I haven't gotten them lately because I now try to stay away from all grains. For dessert, I sometimes order the banana split from the kids menu. There are other flavors of ice cream every day in the dining room also. And they will make the chocolate melting cake (pre-order) or creme brûlée.

I've asked room service several times and have always been told no. Frankly, room service is the one thing Carnival falls short on compared to ordering GF items on other cruise lines. Other than a vegetable sticks, fruit or yogurt, there's nothing to order.

The grills close early on almost all ships so no where to get fries late at night.

Creme Brûlée is gf but its dairy I can't have that too!

I just was asking about whether the pizza was gluten free because I wasn't sure whether there is anything for me to eat past 11pm as we stay up late and do want a snack (we don't want to wait for room service in our room)

On my cruises I never make special requests for gluten free because I mainly eat meat (ask for no gravy), veggies, potatoes, rice and salads with oil and vinegar so I am ok. Breakfast I stick with eggs, bacon or ham and potatoes. At night I like to have something even if it were fruit, salad or even french fries lol ;)

I guess then there aren't any fries wonder what time the grill closes on the Fascination?

I can after our early dining go to the buffet and bring back to my room some fruit and veggies for later on at least I don't have to wait for room service.

I wonder if they make corn muffins?

Thank you for posting this! We cruise next month and my daughter is gluten intolerant. I was told that they would flag her reservation...now I know more of what to expect! :). Thank you!!!

Did you call carnival to get them to flag the reservation? Or do they have an email?

We were on Spirit in December, not sure if the menus are exactly the same;

Each morning they would have one (sometimes 2) types of GF muffin with the breakfast goods at Lido Buffet, I loved the blueberry one and would actually take one back to our room with me for DD to snack on during the day.

GF Pizza was my go to snack late at night!

Molton Lava cake as mentioned and they also made me other cakes for dessert that were gluten free, as long as I ordered my food when finishing up dinner the night before, the next night they could do anything gluten free.

Gluten free bread and rolls were readily available, but I must say, after the 6th night or so I was a bit sick of the GF bread flavour - it was really sweet.

I personally wasn't impressed with the gluten free options on our recent cruise.

The gf bread was the worst I had ever eaten. I found that it just wouldn't toast! I worked with the deli station and she tried and tried to get it toasted but no luck! She even grilled the bread before making the sandwich and then again after the sandwich was made. I ended up ordered a sandwich without bread on the last day and ate it with a knife and fork. It was pretty good. I wish I thought of that eariler.

We tried to order the gf bread in the dinning room for breakfast and we sent it back 3 times to get it toasted but it came back just warm not toasted. We found it tasted gross.

The did NOT have gf muffins, french toast, bread, or pancakes at the buffet.

The gf pizza was also horrible. It was really puffy. At home I get gf pizza from the grocery store freezer section or at pizza pizza and it is always a thin crust.

For dessert we usually had ice cream or the gf chocolate melting cake. I was dissappointed that they didn't make gf brownies or cake. I am not a big dessert person but my dh is and we both thought there would be more options.

Hi! I sent my Carnival cruise consultant an email and she responded with the following:

Hi Mindy,

I added a request for a gluten free diet on her reservation. She may also wish to talk to our Chef's once onboard to find out where her other options might be so she can stay gluten free in the other dining venues as well.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Regards,

Thank you everybody.

As far as pancakes, waffles I won't need that gf because I don't care for that heavy stuff, the pizza be nice as long as I have something to eat late at night I be fine. I will just dock it up with hot red pepper haha

I never found a good tasting gf bread/rolls anyways, I tried all the brands available they just not good so if Carnival does offer gf bread I am thankful for that. If I go to the deli I just ask for the meat. :D

My BF has to eat GF. When we were on the Dream last October, we spoke with one of the hostess's in the dining room on Saturday night. He was able to order Sunday nights dinner off the menu. When we got to the dining room, they had a special ticket for him that was given to the head waiter.

Even though he had pre-ordered, the hostess handed him a menu so that people wouldn't look at him funny.

Each night in the dining room, they brought him the next night's menu so he could order ahead of time. They even brought him brunch menu so he could order off that as well.

When the dessert was apple pie, he said "too bad...I can't have that"....they made him his own small apple pie.

He never had any issues finding something to eat. He wasn't a fan of the pizza since it was too doughy for him.

I am really worried because I have a combination of food allergies that is really difficult.

I can't have gluten, dairy, potatoes, sugar, soy, amaranth, or yeast, as well as a number of legumes.

This means that almost all gluten free bread, waffles, etc... are out for me, potato side dishes are out, and anything that has cane sugar in it (which is almost everything!).

I too need to eat something before I go to sleep at night or I wake up around 4am and am unable to sleep.

I'm bringing beef jerky, packets of nuts and seeds, cereal, rice cakes, peanut butter that I can eat, honey, agave, my own herbal teas I can make iced tea with, etc...

I called carnival and asked if there will be any issue with my bringing my own food and unsweetened almond milk. I was told that the food must be in unopened packages and the milk can't be 750mL which is problematic since unsweetened almond milk (the only kind I can have), only comes in 946mL containers, at least in Canada.

I am going to put notes on it asking them to PLEASE not take my almond milk or any of my food or I will starve. lol

If I have the almond milk I can at least make my own ice coffee. The only beverages on board I can likely have is water, unsweetened juice if they have that (not a big juice drinker anyways) and coffee, and I really have to watch caffeine as well.

KnitnZen, I know people like you, I only have to stay away from gluten and dairy but there are others that have to stay away from the things you have to although I not sure if they have to stay away from vegetables.

Just me having to stay away from gluten was bad enough now I have to stay away from all dairy so I know what you mean and I love love sour cream and cheese oh my gosh!!

I was going to say bring the things you can eat with you, I am glad you decided to, there is nothing wrong bringing those items so that it can make things easier for you. I was also thinking bringing nuts. My girlfriend is just like me and she loves that unsweetened almond milk for her coffee and cereal and she must have it when we go to whole foods she buys a case lol.

May I suggest calling them and seeing if you can get a refrigerator in your room, I am sure they must have some the ones in the room don't fit much and don't keep as cool, I would look into that.

Ever try soda water/seltzer and squeeze some fresh lime or lemons in it I drink this all the time, you can also do it with water but I think its better with the fizz lol.

I just got off the Sunshine and they did an awesome job accommodating my gluten free diet. I did get sick of the gluten free bread in the dining room though.

The gluten free pizza takes a long time to make, and ours still wasn't cooked all the way through so it was pretty doughy. We decided that if we ordered another one we'd tell them to cook it even longer...but we never did get another pizza.

We didn't try the gluten free bun at Guys...we just got burger patties with toppings on them and ate them with forks. Pretty good!

I had no idea about the scrambled eggs on the buffet having gluten. I ate them every single morning with my sausage, bacon, and yogurt. I had no tummy issues. Interesting!

They had several gluten free desserts in the main dining room. I tried, and LOVED, the creme brulee, the cappuccino pie, cheesecake, and chocolate melting cake. Very impressed with dessert choices!
