I am seeing mixed reviews on this ship on awful food, bad service, bad shows. But others enjoyed it. I am taking my father for his 80th bday and he won't go more than 4 nights. Also going with mys sister & her husband that have never been on a cruise. I like the iterary, key west, coco Kay, Nassau. So we will only be on the ship in the evenings. Looking for opinions. Would like to hear from someone that has recently been on it.

Ship is older, but clean and kept as much as it can be. I liked the itinerary and chose the ship because of it. Food was good and didn't catch the shows. I personally think its worth it...if...you realize what you are getting. It isn't the Oasis of the Seas, etc. However, it is a good ship.

We went on Majesty last year on 4 night sailing for itinerary as we were traveling with newbie cruisers who didn't want to be at sea in the day and they wanted to be on a budget for a first cruise in case they didn't enjoy.

Due to the length of time in port we spent not a great deal of time on the ship, but entertainment was perfectly acceptable.

One thing we did think was the food in main dining room was outstanding. The head chef at the time was a former masterchef or similar contestant. It was so good that when I went on the adventure two weeks later it made the adventures food seem subpar! I am not sure how long the head chefs stay on board but he was excellent.

Our first time travelers got the cruise bug and can't wait to cruise again.

Value for money wise can't go wrong. Only issue is no balconies unless you go for a suite.

Madge is always a great weekend getaway for us. So the shows aren't up to those on the Oasis or Allure. They're still solid enough for a short cruise. Food is the same as on other RCL ships, although no specialty restaurants other than Johnny Rockets. Check out the Compass Deli for a great lunch. Service has always been very good, especially the bar staff.

Honestly, I thought Majesty was ready for the scrap yard back in 2003. Unless it's drydock was a complete overhaul with cabin redesigns and every square inch of public space replaced, it is a relic from another era in cruising.

That being said a sailing on the Majesty ignited a cruising obsession in 2 generations of my family, and we still had a great time.

Just a word of advice, avoid the deck 2 & 3 forward OV cabins (the ones marked on maps with the asterisks). The bed layout is just awkward.

I know 2003 isn't recent, but we had the same exact itinerary, and loved the ports (Key West was probably my favorite, with the most active site-seeing available)

I took my mother on the Majesty of the Seas in 2012 for her 70th birthday. It was a first cruise for both of us and we really enjoyed it . The food in the MDR was very good. The Windjammer was average buffet food with plenty of variety. My mom enjoyed being able to order her coffee in the morning for room service.

Mom enjoyed the casino. I went to a few shows. They are a bit campy, but entertaining. I thought the "love and marriage show" and sexiest man contest was hilarious. Mom enjoyed the live entertainment.

The service was excellent. Several staff members wished her a happy birthday throughout the trip and they brought a cake to the dinner table and sang to her. I think your Dad will enjoy it. It's pretty laid back and not too big of a ship to navigate.

Majesty is just fine considering her age. Cabins are small compared to some on the newer ships and only the suites have verandas. The entertainment was comparable to all the other cruises we have been on....RCCL and others. Where I noticed a big difference was in the passengers. This itinerary seems to attract more of a "party group", younger groups as well as multi generational groups. Perhaps due to the fact that we did the 3 night cruise. All our other cruises have been longer and pax older.

I'm not one to complain about food when someone else is preparing it for me but on our Majesty cruise I will say that the food was very good.

We took my parents on Majesty in January, 2013. We all had a wonderful time. The food was some of the best we have ever had on Royal. The ship is obviously dated, especially when compared to the new ships, but the crew takes good care of her. Entertainment was ok. My only "complaint" is that several of the chairs in the theater were broken, I almost fell out of the first one I sat down in.

We would not hesitate to sail on Majesty again. I personally do not pay any attention to the reviews I read where people criticize food, entertainment, etc. It's all subjective!:D

We went on the MOJ last July for the same 4 night itinerary. It was our children's first cruise. The ship was much smaller then our previous cruises but still very nice. The food was excellent and we didn't spend much time on the ship.

I shared an inside cabin with 2 of my teenage daughters and it was VERY small. My husband and youngest daughter shared an OV cabin across the hall. They had much more room.

My ONLY complaint was that since it was the summer time, there were over 300 teenage girls from Argentina (with only about 5 chaperones). They seemed to take over the ship and were very disrespectful and loud. Security was called on them many times. I was told that is to be expected on the summer cruises.

DH and I love Her Majesty of the Seas. It is the oldest ship in the fleet. However, it always gives you a fabulous cruise. Don't expect, what the bigger ships have -- specialty restaurants, big lavish 'promenade' parades. Expect wonderful staff and entertaining shows; very good to excellent food. When we get on her for embarkation day, we head to WJ so I can have paella (it's something I look forward to). Yes, cabins are smaller -- remember the ship is over 20 years old (kept well -- been refurbished).

DH and I have been on her 10 times. Staff is wonderful and more than makes up for the ships smaller size. The itinerary is fun. We don't even leave the ship in Nassau anymore, and have more room for ourselves on board, while others are onshore.

Enjoy your cruise on Majesty. It will be great! Have lunch in Compass Deli -- it is very good and a little bit of a change of pace!

I sailed on her last Fall. Being an old ship design I found it difficult to navigate around the ship. You really can't get too many places on the ship without doing a lot of stairs, or taking a lot of elevator rides. So if your father has difficulty with walking or doing stairs, you may be better off doing a newer ship.

We booked last minute last Thanksgiving could not beat $800 for four people. I liked the service but my husband did not. He visited the bars and watched most of the nighttime shows and said they were OK not great. I found the shows to be more for older people-songs were prior to the 80s mostly for the first show we saw, the magic show was decent but did not really wow me or the kids, the last show with the various types of music was a bit confusing and seemed rushed to me but my husband liked it. this was our first time on an RCL ship since we had been exclusively Carnival for years. I liked that the crew actually spoke English and all of us could understand them. We usually have a hard time with our other cruises. I did not like the food but my husband and kids said it was OK. I loved the soda machines which is a great improvement from Carnival.

I'm really glad to see all the positive comments. I booked Majesty for August strictly for the intinerary and have been a little concerned after what I've been reading on a few threads. Of course, the only other ship I've ever been on is Enchantment, so it's not like I'm used to the bigger ships :)

The general consensus is that even if we have hangups about the layout/design of the ship... they make up for it in food and entertainment. Also, from what I read, the overhaul fixed many of the issues I had back in '03 when the sip just looked "worn". Just a warning that some of the very forward OV's on the lower decks do not have lower berths that can be pushed together (since they are in a "L" formation).

Ok lets be fair to this old girl. She doesnt have the amenities the larger ships do, but she is still a great ship and I love going to Key West on her. I never had a problem with the food or service for that matter. I think you cant please some people no matter what you do, so I negative comments with a grain of salt and I like to make my own opinion. Yes, its good to read the reviews to see whats good and bad in their opinons, but really, how bad can the food be. Oh its bland.... yea well, if they made it spicy, people would complain about that. This is why they have a huge condiment rack of spices and sauces... They cant cook for every taste. I saw book it and youll have a blast !!

Majesty is definitely a ship you go on for the destinations and not the ship ! We love going to Key West, but have chosen to do that itinerary on Disney instead of going on Majesty again . Why don't you try Enchantment out of Port Canaveral instead ! You will miss Key West, but its a nicer ship !

Missing Key West is not worth trading MJ for EN. We've done both ships many times. Key West is the major attraction on MJ's itin. The perfect itin would be having EN go there also.

Agreed ! That's why we are doing Disney to get back there. Is there a cruise out of Tampa that hits Key West as well ??
