SeaWatch Posted March 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Is it acceptable to wear a tie ( no jacket) to Chops and formal night on a Spring Freedom of the Seas cruise? Thanks.
cb at sea Posted March 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Chops is "smart casual" even on formal nights. Having no jacket will not get you turned away from the MDR.
SeaWatch Posted March 3, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Thank you - I have not eaten in Chops and was not sure. I did notice the MDR thread so I think my question has been answered :)

You don't even have to wear a tie if you don't want to. Enjoy!
gerif Posted March 3, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2014 You don't even have to wear a tie if you don't want to. Enjoy! Actually, a tie without a jacket looks kind of dumb, so might as well ditch that also.

It falls under one of the definitions of business casual. Now a tie with short sleeved dress shirts, that looks dumb.

Applebee's is a poor example. Edited March 3, 2014 by nolesrule

I was in outside sales, for 35 years in South Florida, a short sleeve dress shirt with a tie was the norm. I know all about warm weather climates. I've been in a tux at an outdoor June wedding. I also worked as a self-employed computer tech for a decade. Those that were non-self employed in that field were forced to wear ties with short sleeved dress shirts (think Geek Squad). It looks dumb, and I have trouble taking it seriously. MedicKen Posted March 3, 2014 #15 Share Posted March 3, 2014 You certainly can wear a tie but I suggest you consider pants and a shirt as well. (Like Foghorn Leghorn used to say," That's a joke son.")
