We'll be in London from Fri, Aug 22-27 and Liverpool Sat Aug 30. We are interested in seeing at least one game in the London area plus hopefully while we're in Liverpool as well.

 

We've heard that even though a game is scheduled for Sat, they mean switch it to Sunday at the last minute which would raise havoc with our plans especially if we prepurchase theater tickets.

 

Is that the case or is there a firm schedule? When and how is the best way to purchase tix?

The fixtures are only published in May after this season has finished. So you will probably be able to watch a football match in London due to the numerous teams, but Liverpool and Everton may well be playing away. They normally change match times a couple of weeks in advance.

More like the end of June when the fixtures come out. The early season TV fixtures should be announced pretty soon after that, because they tend to decide all the matches up to the end of November or so right at the start. You do get more than a fortnight's notice, though - maybe a month at minimum.

As regards purchasing tickets, the individual clubs sell tickets, but will prioritise their members so it can be difficult to get tickets for very popular games. If you are not too bothered which game you watch, you wull have more chance. Another legitimate source of tickets is apparently the Thomas Cook website. Beware of buying your tickets from unauthorised websites, as they can turn out to be fakes.

 

The dates and/or times of matches can be changed, sometimes more than once, due to the demands of TV schedules or because one or both teams are still involved in one of the knock-out competitions. This does sometimes make it difficult for overseas visitors, but unfortunately can't be helped.

Best thing would be check the schedule when it comes out, and then see which teams are playing at home that weekend. Dont forget that the Premier League isn't the only professional division of soccer. There are a total of four 'pro' divisions of football in the UK (from top to bottom); Premier, Championship, Div 1, Div 2.

All sorts of websites have fixture lists, whether team-by-team or in total. Google English football fixtures 2014-15, when the time comes, and you'll have your choice. (You can practice with 2013-14 to get familiar with various sites.)

 

As for tickets, you need to buy these through the clubs. Resale of professional football tickets is illegal, although some clubs might license certain agencies to sell them on their behalf. The larger clubs (Arsenal, Chelsea, etc.) might not have many to spare - the likes of QPR (if they don't get promotion), Brentford, Orient, will probably have tickets for sale on the door - though I always prefer buying in advance just to be safe.

Thanks for the plug for our local lads. :)

 

Tickets can be bought over the internet though they don't post to overseas addresses - instead you collect from the office when you go to the match.

Big demand for tickets for big games like Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, or against London clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal (as the Exile's post, best not mention Fulham - or probably Crystal Palace ;)) but not usually a sell-out for other matches.
