Granny1 Posted March 9, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2014 She was the first cruise and having never seen a cruise ship we were star strucked when we seen it, it was HUGE in our eyes but now is small wherever she is compared to the ships now days..Going on the Dream in 89 days and introducing two newbies to cruising and anxious to see the amazement when they see the ship.;)
Bases5 Posted March 9, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2014 We sailed her on a 10 day RT from Miami back in 2000 (when carnival used to offer 10 day trips) Great cruise included Key west, Curacao Aruba, Cartagena 1/2 canal transit and Lima Costa Rica Yes it was a small compared to today @ 33,000 tons but my first cruise was on NCL Skyward @ 16000 tons so the Jubilee was a monster. We have very fond memorys of the Jubilee
kmc500 Posted March 9, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) My wife and I, and my best friend and his wife sailed on her in 2002, we each had Verandah suites opposite each other. Loved the Holiday class, she was in great shape even then. We had the wildest seas on that trip I've ever seen, and I am sure the size of the ship and lack of stabilizers made it worse. She was rocking! Seemed that just about everyone on the ship was sick by the third or fourth day in. My friend and I, feeling pretty well (we never did get sick - must have been the booze) were in the casino that night, when they had to close the craps table due to not having enough dealers who weren't sick! Pine Bluff Posted March 9, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) Fond memories of this ship. Still friends with tablemates and even the CD, even thought its almost 30 years since we first sailed her. Saw her one last time in the distance as we sailed past her back in 2004, before she went to P&O as the Pacific Sun.. She now is called the Henna. goofycruiser Posted March 9, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 9, 2014 We sailed on her in February 1999. It was an 11 day cruise that went as far south as Aruba and Trinidad. We thought it was an amazing ship and had a great time. Compared to the Breeze it seems so small but it was easy to get around. It never seemed crowded either. NCTribeFan Posted March 10, 2014 #20 Share Posted March 10, 2014 My first cruise, too, in April 2001. I also thought she was HUGE! We had some rough seas, and I was fairly green the entire time (upper decks were closed off). I never hurled, but I wasn't sure I ever wanted to cruise again. And yet over the next couple of years, I kept thinking, "hmmmm, I need to give that another try." So I did, and sailed RCI's Empress (Nordic Empress at that time; about the same size ship but had an teeny, tiny inside cabin). I had every intention of sailing one of the other remaining Holiday class ships and it just didn't happen. People can keep the bigger, newer ships. I'm not interested. I really have no desire to sail Splendor in November. It just happens to be the ship that is doing the repositioning. It's the itinerary I want. I loved my 14-night HAL cruise on Zaandam. She's smaller, has a layout more like the Spirit-class ships, has a wrap-around promenade deck with plenty of deck chairs out there. I may just have to "graduate" to HAL once I take my Milestone cruise on Carnival. It's a shame that to sail on smaller, more intimate ships you have to pay more money. :(
linga Posted April 12, 2016 #21 Share Posted April 12, 2016 Flickr mytravelphotos Carnival Jubilee Cruise Capers 2/1991 Flickr mytravelphotos Carnival Jubilee Cruise Pictures 2/1991 :):):):) I know this is an old post, but I just came across it and was so excited to see the Capers for Jubilee. Jubilee was my first cruise in 1994, 7-day Mexican Riviera, and what got me hooked on cruising! I knew they had a midnight buffet in the dining room, but I had been telling people about a 2:00am buffet that was on the Promenade deck, and others didn't remember! But there it is! Listed on the Capers! I remember dancing the night away in the night club and then hitting the mini-buffet on the Promenade about 2:00am each night! it was great! Can't believe that was 22 years ago!
