Help me budget for Grand Cayman!

There are three of us, two adults & a 6 year old. No excursions planned. We know we want to bring back some rum for Christmas gifts. We’ll eat lunch, and likely just find a beach somewhere after we’ve shopped. What is a realistic budget for lunch and alcohol? I’ve heard it’s expensive here, and I don’t want to get caught short!

You can figure about $25-30 for chair /umbrella rentals ( wouldn't rent a lounger for the child...they won't use it!!)...and depending on what you order for lunch, about $10-$20 pp.....ballpark figures, of course.

Can't help with rum or liquor prices...I've never bought any.....too much trouble lugging it around!

The stores will send the liquor directly to the ship for you. You get the cheaper price that way.

when you look at a menu for someplace in Cayman note that the prices are typically given in Cayman Dollars. The conversion rate is fixed (has been for a long time) and what you'll get on the street is>>>

$1 US is $0.80 CI

$20 US is $16 CI

So to figure your US price, just figure a 20% tip .... and if the tip was not included another 20% for that .... calculate a 40% tip. A $10 hamburger becomes a $14 hamburger.

Read the fine print on the menu because some places automatically include the tip . .

A burger and a soft drink can hit $20 easily
