chevytrkr Posted March 25, 2014 #301 Share Posted March 25, 2014 I've been following the situation about the cruise ships stuck in port due to an oil spill from a barge. From the news photos it appears the oil is very thick and has caused much damage to wildlife and beaches near Galveston. There appears to be a lot of work ahead to clean out this mess, so it looks like your cruise will be greatly shortened if not cancelled altogether. Very unfortunate situation indeed. Hopefully Princess will give you a good FCC as well as 100% of your cruise fare. I realize it is not Princess' fault, but they need to make this good for the passengers and PR for future cruisers. James in SA Posted March 25, 2014 #302 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Carnival Magic is leaving port at this moment, Triumph is scheduled to leave at 5:00, and the port is now open to ferry and barge traffic. I wonder if they will let CB out too?

I am searching, but hard from my phone, as I'm on board! Sent from my iPhone using Forums Just repeating what is on the comments below the Galveston cruise cam. http://www.galveston.com/cruisevideocam/ I don't think the comments show on the mobile version. Here is the most relevant one... FYI... 20-25 kts winds from S and SE expected this evenng through early Thursday morning. Tides above 1.0 and 1.5 feet above normal expected Wednesday evening and Thursday. Patchy fog expected during the week. - A cold front is expected to arrive late Friday evening which will eliminate any fog conditions. Coast Guard reported the channel is clear from the Galveston Jetties to Fred Hartmann Bridge. - Two test runs being performed this morning. Coast Guard optimistic will be able to authorize traffic later today. Pilots report orders as follow: Houston: 53 outbound, 47 inbound; Texas City: 7 outbound, 6 inbound; Galveston: 1 outbound, 4 inbound; Six de-contamination stations have been set up for vessels that have been contaminated. Decontamination will take place at the vessel's berth as much as possible. Priotity is to move clean vessels first. Vessels that are currently in the contaminated zones are requested to perform a self-assessment and report their status to Coast Guard at 832-244-1870. The contaminated zones are the ports of Texas City, Galveston and the channels leading to those ports. In addition, Coast Guard reported that some oil did pass through the jetties and drifted to the south. - Coast Guard is asking vessels anchored south of the jetties to perform a self assessment as well. Pilot orders should be updated and pilots notifed of the contamination status of vessels. CBP has advised that they have issued a blanket 24 hour extention of all clearances. Since reopening of the ports is now imminent, agents are reminded that ENOA's and pilot orders must be kept updated. The next PCT conference call is schduled for 1500 hrs this afternoon. Rancher Dave Posted March 25, 2014 #310 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Good to see one finally on the way out. Not long before they were adjusting ship to decontaminate. Wonder if they will get slicked up on way out and have to decontaminate once at sea buoy? Guess vessel finder watching is in order.
