dkjretired Posted May 21, 2014 #27 Share Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) Welcome to the wonderful world of Celebrity inconsistency. Here is the list of what not to pack, from their website: Firearms & Ammunition, including realistic replicas Sharp Objects, including knives and scissors* Illegal Drugs & Substances Candles & Incense Coffee Makers, Clothes Irons, Electrical Extension Cords, & Hot Plates Baseball Bats, Hockey Sticks, Cricket Bats, Bows and Arrows Skateboards & Surfboards Martial Arts Gear Self-Defense Gear, including handcuffs, pepper spray and night sticks Flammable Liquids and Explosives, including lighter fluid and fireworks HAM Radios Dangerous Chemicals, including bleach and paint Alcoholic Beverages** --------------------------------------------- Additionally, you will find on the website the following statement in the FAQ "Is my stateroom furnished with amenities that I don’t need to pack? ……Steamers or irons are not allowed onboard." ------------------------------------------------ At the entrance to the ship, you may find a document posted. You may have walked past it a hundred times and never noticed it. Prohibited Items SQM 5.12.3 R12 The following items are prohibited aboard all Celebrity ships. (see exceptions, section 5.12) For questionable items not on the list, the Staff Captain and the Security Officer will determine what is or is not allowed onboard. Sharp Objects All knives, regardless of blade length, including disguised knives such as belt buckles, walking canes, pens, et cetera Box Cutters Ice Picks/Ice Axes Meat Cleavers Razor Type Blades, such as box cutters, utility knives and razor blades not in cartridge. Note: shaving safety razors are allowed. Sabers Swords Scissors with blade length 4 inches or greater Guns & Firearms All firearms. If something is on one list as forbidden, but omitted from the other two, what does that mean? Which list should passengers adhere to? ------------------------------- The fact is, that passengers HAVE been stopped and had items taken from them, including kettles, extension cords, clothes irons, steamers, electric coffee pots, and power strips. OTHER passengers have gotten through with all of the above. One passenger's success at taking on a steamer, or a kettle, or a pair of scissors, or a hammer does not mean that the next passenger will be equally successful. On a recent cruise I was on, some passenger's scissors (less than 4 inch blades) were taken by Security in Auckland, New Zealand. Others on the same cruise broughtrohibotef the same kinds of scissors on board with no problem. Some posters report bringing steamers aboard with no problem. Others have theirs taken. Just be ready for anything. Up until a few years ago they actually had hand grenades on the list of prohibited items. Rare cruisestitch Posted May 21, 2014 #28 Share Posted May 21, 2014 They are still there. But I did just now realize that I neglected to include one other line Under flammable items it should also read "Hookahs & Water Hookah Pipes"

WestLakeGirl Posted May 21, 2014 #30 Share Posted May 21, 2014 Maybe the cord was frayed? Even a supposedly safe electrical item can cause a fire if the cord is frayed

bisabella Posted May 21, 2014 #32 Share Posted May 21, 2014 I am just wondering -- if the specific edocs that you receive for your specific cruise do not specifically say you cannot bring a steamer aboard and they discover the steamer and attempt to confiscate it, can you successfully argue that you should be able to bring the steamer aboard? Would you have any recourse?
sdnich Posted May 21, 2014 #33 Share Posted May 21, 2014 When I went down to customer service I did ask because it was not in E-doc the gentleman said it was up to the screener.I did not argue just picked up at end of cruise
Rare cruisestitch Posted May 21, 2014 #34 Share Posted May 21, 2014 I'm guessing that they would fall back on the statement from their SQR: "For questionable items not on the list, the Staff Captain and the Security Officer will determine what is or is not allowed onboard." Since it appears in print on an official Celebrity document (the FAQ) they would also probably quote that. I doubt if there would be much you could do. sasset Posted May 21, 2014 #38 Share Posted May 21, 2014 First time I noticed. At debarkation there was a table with liquor, irons, a complete set of kitchen knives and other items that I could not readily identify all, apparently, taken at embarkation. ClaireP Posted July 11, 2014 #42 Share Posted July 11, 2014 been reading this thread with interest. I have not long returned from Infinity cruise departing from the UK and loved the kettle in my room, as I am a big tea drinker the FAQs do reference coffee makers and the list at the door appears to say hot water immersion coils but not kettles. I would really love to bring a kettle on my next one - anyone know if the US mean kettles when they state coffee makers?
WestLakeGirl Posted July 11, 2014 #43 Share Posted July 11, 2014 Your kettle will not be allowed. Probably. While almost everyone in the US knows that a kettle and a coffe maker are two different things, the screeners who are the ones making the local decision probably lump all these devices together and will take it from you. Dorset Cruiser Posted July 15, 2014 #44 Share Posted July 15, 2014 So - are kettles allowed or not. My 'kettle' boils water, is thermostatically controlled and switches itself off once boiled. It is not like a coffee-maker or clothes iron which stay on until manually turned off. I cannot see kettle mentioned in the list above.
WestLakeGirl Posted July 15, 2014 #45 Share Posted July 15, 2014 As answered elsewhere, water heating equipment is not allowed, they are lumped together with immersion heaters and coffee pots. There are many, many reports from cruisers who have had their kettles taken from them
