So, the questions on the floor (aren't you glad you asked, OP?) are

Which of these lists is the most official?

If something is on one list as forbidden, but omitted from the other two, what does that mean?

Which list should passengers adhere to?

-------------------------------

The fact is, that passengers HAVE been stopped and had items taken from them, including kettles, extension cords, clothes irons, steamers, electric coffee pots, and power strips.

OTHER passengers have gotten through with all of the above.

One passenger's success at taking on a steamer, or a kettle, or a pair of scissors, or a hammer does not mean that the next passenger will be equally successful.

On a recent cruise I was on, some passenger's scissors (less than 4 inch blades) were taken by Security in Auckland, New Zealand. Others on the same cruise broughtrohibotef the same kinds of scissors on board with no problem.

Some posters report bringing steamers aboard with no problem. Others have theirs taken.

Just be ready for anything.

Up until a few years ago they actually had hand grenades on the list of prohibited items.

I am just wondering -- if the specific edocs that you receive for your specific cruise do not specifically say you cannot bring a steamer aboard and they discover the steamer and attempt to confiscate it, can you successfully argue that you should be able to bring the steamer aboard? Would you have any recourse?

I'm guessing that they would fall back on the statement from their SQR:

"For questionable items not on the list, the Staff Captain and the Security Officer will determine what is or is not allowed onboard."

Since it appears in print on an official Celebrity document (the FAQ) they would also probably quote that.

I doubt if there would be much you could do.

When I went down to customer service I did ask because it was not in E-doc the gentleman said it was up to the screener.I did not argue just picked up at end of cruise

Where did they keep it? With the hand grenades?

First time I noticed. At debarkation there was a table with liquor, irons, a complete set of kitchen knives and other items that I could not readily identify all, apparently, taken at embarkation.

  • 1 month later...

been reading this thread with interest. I have not long returned from Infinity cruise departing from the UK and loved the kettle in my room, as I am a big tea drinker

the FAQs do reference coffee makers and the list at the door appears to say hot water immersion coils but not kettles. I would really love to bring a kettle on my next one - anyone know if the US mean kettles when they state coffee makers?

Your kettle will not be allowed. Probably.

While almost everyone in the US knows that a kettle and a coffe maker are two different things, the screeners who are the ones making the local decision probably lump all these devices together and will take it from you.

So - are kettles allowed or not. My 'kettle' boils water, is thermostatically controlled and switches itself off once boiled. It is not like a coffee-maker or clothes iron which stay on until manually turned off. I cannot see kettle mentioned in the list above.
