Boscodog Posted March 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2014 We will be sailing in a few weeks on the Breakaway. We live in NJ and will be getting dropped off at the pier. What is the best time to get there so we won't get into congestion and my son (who is driving us) can get in and out quickly. Thanks

runner15km Posted March 26, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2014 1-1:30 would be a good time.
BrPanthers99 Posted March 26, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 26, 2014 I disagree. I like to get there around 11am, by 11:30 they usually start letting you on and you can get that extra lunch in. They say dont get there til 1-1:30 but I have never had any issue going earlier. Very short lines

bones774 Posted March 26, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2014 One more point, if the upper level drop off is busy and crowded have your drop off person use lower level if no one is there. You can easily take the elevator up and the driver scoots off.

dwjoe Posted March 26, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2014 See if you can find out if other ships will be there on the same day. On our cruise from Pier 88 there were 2 NCL ships boarding and it was a madhouse in the terminal. We arrived around 12:30 but I wish I'd have gotten there earlier. meatball_nyc Posted March 26, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 26, 2014 You can check on cruise timetables dot com. On April 6, it's only Breakaway. Robin Norwegian Breakaway July 2014 Every Day at Sea is a Great Day
Rare mizLORInj Posted March 26, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 26, 2014 I agree with targeting 11. I don't think traffic is worse at 11 than 1. If you see 12th Ave is very backed up northbound, you can get dropped off across from the ship and and walk across the street to the pier.
FinallyGoinOnACruise Posted March 26, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 26, 2014 We got there at about 11 and it wasn't too congested. There was hardly a lineup in the terminal at that time as well.
mattR Posted March 27, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2014 We plan on getting dropped off across the street from pier 88 near the taxi stand. I'm thinking that we would take the elevator up to the second level with our bags then head outside again and drop them with a porter correct? sailingnut Posted March 27, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 27, 2014 I always got there around 11-11:30 and it was fine. I got on the ship, had a nice lunch, went to check out the cabin and the muster drill and sail-away! Have a nice cruise and Happy Sailing!:)

There should be porters available on the street level, so it's unlikely you'll have to take your bags upstairs.

Oh thought they might only be there when people are getting off the ship.
