On our land tour with HAL this summer, we'll be staying at the Westmark in Fairbanks and Anchorage. For Denali it will be Mckinley Chalet Resort. What restaurant choices are nearby in any of these places? We'll be in Anchorage on a Sunday morning any suggestions for churches to visit? Anything interesting to see nearby with just a couple hours time?

The Westmark Anchorage is downtown. The Glacier Brewhouse across the street would be my first choice. It can fill up, so make reservations in advanced. http://glacierbrewhouse.com/

Simon & Seaforts is a few blocks and very good too.

McKinley Chalet is in "Glitter Gulch". It has it's own restaurant, or there's the Denali Park Salmon Bake or Prospector's Pizza. https://www.denaliparksalmonbake.com/restaurant.html

Sunday: Anchorage has just about every type of church you can image. The Holy Family Cathedral (Catholic) is right downtown and within walking distance from the Westmark. There's a Methodist church at 9th & G and a Baptist church at 10th & L. And a Presbyterian church at 10th & G.

The Westmark Fairbanks is located just outside downtown Fairbanks. The Westmark Fairbanks has an on-site restaurant, and the bar also serves sandwiches and other casual options (or at least it does during the winter). It is also a few blocks from my favorite local Thai restaurant -- the Thai House. If you don't have mobility problems it is also within walking distance of such restaurants as Lavelle's, Gambardellas and Bobby's.

For Fairbanks, our flight arrives at 8 pm. Don't know how long the transfers will take to get to the hotel. It will seem more like 11 pm for us but we'd probably like to stretch our legs and get a light bite.

Seems like there's limited options in Denali which is what I was expecting. How far is the Salmon Bake from McKinley Chalets? Is it on a hill or flat? Safe to walk -walkways off the street? What do you mean by "Glitter Gulch"?

For Anchorage we need suggestions for breakfast places.

For Anchorage we need suggestions for breakfast places.

The taxi ride from Fairbanks International Airport to the Fairbanks Westmark will take about twenty or so minutes.

In the Denali area "Glitter Gulch" is the area of unplanned development outside of the entrance to the national park. While some non-Alaskan posters have referred to it as a "town" it is unincorporated. Don't expect sidewalks.

The Anchorage Westmark has an on-site restaurant.

We found all the Westmark's restaurants just fine. We were usually ready for dinner as soon as we arrived at the hotels, not interested in walking around trying to find a restaurant open without waiting an hour for seating. The hotel restaurants were able to accommodate the numbers of folks off the tour buses and prices were pretty comparable too.

Actually the McKinley Chalet Resorts has a number of eating venues. I think there were 3 different restaurants and a deli (for snacks and sandwiches).

Glitter Gulch has a number of small fast food places (pizza, subway, etc.) across the road from the Resort.

McKinley Chalet has been added to the Westmark website now

And I found the hotels on our cruisetour to be pretty much what was pictured on the Westmark website.

Have a great trip! Alaska is awesome!

We stayed at the McKinley Chalet. We liked the location. But, it is not a very big area.

We purchased a lunch to take on our Tundra Wilderness tour. Our tour left at 6 am and they were open and had it ready. There is also a Subway in Glitter Gulch to get a lunch for Denali.

We ate at the Prospect Pizza. It was excellent--so give it a try! It is right across the street from the Chalet.

there is also the Anchorage Trolley which will take you on about an hour's tour of downtown Anchorage....It will be about $20.00.....and well worth it...They leave every hour, on the hour.....and sometimes in the middle of tourist season, every half hour...they typically run 8-5....but in the tourist time they will extend their hours to 9 PM...It leaves from the Log Cab visitors center which is only a couple of blocks from the Westmark...

If you wrote in a smaller font, it might be easier for us to read

Font size was some sort of glitch in the computer, not deliberate. If you have trouble reading any post here or your email because of font size, click the control key and the + key. You can then make it as big or small as your eyes demand :D
