skynight Posted April 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2014 Anyone on Diamond Princess at the moment following her refit in Dry Dock? If so what are the changes like and have they made any changes to the balcony cabins? Added Japanese baths, sushi restaurant, new internet cafe, changed casino, new stores, new photo area. Look here http://www.princess.com/learn/ships/di/drydock/#.Uz6i16KcxZo No changes to cabins mentioned, but probably some have received cosmetic attention. Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted April 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 4, 2014 Has anyone seen the new deck plans? We're a bit concerned that some of our favorite places on the Diamond are being turned into extra cost features.
skynight Posted April 4, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 4, 2014 Has anyone seen the new deck plans? We're a bit concerned that some of our favorite places on the Diamond are being turned into extra cost features. Havn't seen complete deck plans but check this out The Princess web site shows the new cabins on deck 6, and the Japanese Bath on Deck 15. The other changes are not yet shown. What favorite places are you referring to? I know the Internet Cafe is being turned into the Sushi restaurant, the Internet Cafe has moved to the former writing room, the wedding chapel was turned into a store, with other stores remodeled, buffet was re-done. I don't see any mention of adding an International Cafe, that's a question still unanswered. Here is some additional info. http://www.travelagentcentral.com/cruises/diamond-princess-undergo-drydock-update-through-april-2-45067

I guess I'm confused about where the Japanese Bath was being put in.

I guess I'm confused about where the Japanese Bath was being put in. Terrace pool still there. Much of the youth center is gone replaced by the Japanese Bath. The actual Japanese hot tub is in the spot where the children's splash pool was located. No mention of any changes to the indoor pool area. Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted April 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 5, 2014 So the two hot tubs on the back of Deck 16 are now part of the Japanese bath too?
IECalCruiser Posted April 5, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2014 (edited) So the two hot tubs on the back of Deck 16 are now part of the Japanese bath too?It appears that those hot tubs are still there, but not part of the Japanese Bath. That area took away over half of the Youth Center area on Sun deck (15). You can see the revised area on the online deck plans. There was a Splash Pool outside in the Youth Center and that was converted into the Outdoor Whirlpool in the Japanese Garden section. Looks like I posted some of the same info as sknight. Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted April 5, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 5, 2014 Thanks for this information. We've done a transpacific cruise on the Diamond, and loved the ship. We especially loved those two aft hot tubs and would have felt quite badly if we had gotten on the ship this fall for 7 weeks only to discover that either they or the covered Calypso Pool area was now extra charge or removed entirely. RetiredNTraveling Posted April 5, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 5, 2014 Pardon me for asking about the Diamond Restoration! I thought that I had read on CC that Princess is stopping the Art Auction? If so why are they redoing the Art Display Area? Also, didn't I read where Princess is going to Digital Photo Display? Again, why are they redoing the Photo Display area with new display boards? I apologize if I am wrong about these two subjects! :D

Lanwood Posted April 6, 2014 #16 Share Posted April 6, 2014 (edited) Anyone sailing the Diamond Princess in there new market watch out for stampedes. When the elevator doors open they come charging. Almost got run over by Asians on Diamond in November. Look out. They do have a different view regarding "personal space" in such circumstances don't they :D. They are very comfortable squeezing much tighter into an elevator than we would normally be comfortable with. Probably why they explode out when the doors open. All part of a different culture experience. Edited April 6, 2014 by Lanwood
