B6ConMe Posted April 7, 2014 #26 Share Posted April 7, 2014 Ouch! Some of you guys are harsh. We were all new here at one time and I guarantee we asked a redundant question. If you are a regular here, why are you opening threads that have no interest in? I come here daily but only open 1 or 2 threads that I am interested in. I believe there are no dumb questions. I have learned so much here. I would hate censorship of posts just because some think the question is asked too much. Got to agree there :) Not sayin' anymore though..

Crusin6 Posted April 7, 2014 #29 Share Posted April 7, 2014 Would the CC administrators please consider cutting off and removing threads about tipping after a day or two? This topic has become absolutely ridiculous. Don't know if it is folks honestly looking for guidance or lurkers looking to stir up a hornet's nest. In either case there are currently two active threads on the subject which is two too many. This subject has been debated ad nauseum. There is nothing new to be said. The continual rants on this subject do nothing to enhance Cruise Critic nor enlighten posters. Forced tipping via dsc as well as smoking chair hogging etc are all viable issues when cruising and there are always questions and opinions about them Again they are viable issues Wether you or anyone else like it or not those threads belong here And before anyone gets upset I leave the dsc on. I don't hog a pool chair I go up top and away from the hogs where there are plenty of loungers to be found and I only book insides or ov cabins and stay away from the casino so I don't have to complain about smokers

Crusin6 Posted April 7, 2014 #31 Share Posted April 7, 2014 Well you're no fun at all. Why? Because I don't think a viable topic should be cut short or removed ? As I said I tip I also deal very well with hogs and smokers. And rarely complain on cc. Give my opinion quite often but rarely complain. I understand mass market cruises and accept it and honestly like them But most importantly I don't believe that a topic should be closed just because other posters are tired of reading about it Why? Because it is a slippery slope we go down when we agree to let a few rule based on their personal opinions I say tipping threads should be welcomed by all at cc because it is apparantly a topic of unease in cruising And remember I said I tip! GuitarGuyFH Posted April 7, 2014 #32 Share Posted April 7, 2014 IN MY OPINION - any thread that turns into a big match of am not are too ought to be closed. The OP asked about tipping threads where the person asked a simple question. It was answered directly and without debate by at least one person. Then pages of debate, thread highjacking, and pissing and moaning followed. If the admins would follow their own bylaws (rules whatever), that heard would have been locked long ago and all of those in the pissing contest would have been given warnings. But alas, there does seem to be a huge double standard around here of those who have been here longer being treated differently and quite often acting as if they are better than anyone else. Again this is all my OPINION and observation over the time I have been here including the period of time I just read the boards before signing up as a member. GORDONCHICK Posted April 7, 2014 #33 Share Posted April 7, 2014 They should have a sticky as to how to use the search engine properly with examples, that would cut out some of the repetitive threads. Of course, this only works if the search function is working. It's usually not when I've tried searching. Also, when people are new to the boards &/or new to cruising, they aren't familiar with everything or where it is. I agree more with the "don't read the threads if the subject bothers you" crowd than the censorship bunch.
2boyzmom Posted April 7, 2014 #34 Share Posted April 7, 2014 Don't forget to ban all threads on kids in hot tubs and shorts in the dining room, embarkation times, rum runners, and all the other nuances that a newbie needs to learn here :)

Tutankhamen Posted April 7, 2014 #37 Share Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) Amazing. A thread that has nothing to do with cruises and more importantly not about a specific line about how threads discussing a cruise lines procedures should be deleted is amusing at best, and ridiculous at worst. Do people not have the self control and lack the ability to ignore subjects or threads that they are not interested in? I mean do we really need more censorship? CasinoCruzGirl Posted April 7, 2014 #39 Share Posted April 7, 2014 i'm sure every topic that could be discussed concerning cruises has been discussed at one time or another. I think it's better to block the people who get offended by someone asking a question and make people feel like crap for asking a question. I see no need for the threads to get out of hand, and it is because people have no tolerance. It seems like every thread has someone chiming in to go search rather than ask a question. Experiences change all the time, so do opinions. If you don't want to be a productive part of a conversation, i believe that you simply shouldn't comment on them...that is how they get out of hand! +1,

THIS EXACTLY. I was new at one time and felt like crap after asking a question on a topic I had no idea had already been discussed. The time it takes to berate someone that asked a question you hate for whatever reason, could just be spent answering it and move on. I just can't stand seeing some of you folks that think your all high and mighty making someone else feel like they are stupid. I know some of you get off on doing that, but let me tell you. That makes you a very not nice person and probably someone I would stay away from if I knew you personally. At the same time, if you know the thread and it makes you mad to see ANOTHER one like it, DON'T READ IT. It's that simple.

If the admins would follow their own bylaws (rules whatever), that heard would have been locked long ago and all of those in the pissing contest would have been given warnings. Your kidding right? Other then what I quoted in red, all of the things you listed are not against CC "bylaws". It is people debating cruise topics. When someone stands up for their beliefs, it doesn't mean they are in a pissing contest. They are, for the most part, trying to have an intellectual debate that is based on opinions. Opinions are the basis of critiquing. Hence Cruise Critic. Edited April 7, 2014 by Tutankhamen

Sorry, GuitarGuyFH, but I've only been here less than a year and I'd have to say that many of the long time members are those who give the best, most accurate info most willingly. There are some who seem to get a little sarcastic but in the end there information is still good. Having said that, I've come across some threads where the OP has been ignored or replied to in less than cordial way. I don't know why that is, but I doubt it happens as often as the informative helpful responsive posts. I have a great deal of respect for some of the more seasoned cruisers (too many to list here, but you know who you are) and have gained a lot of knowledge because of their willingness to share. EBONI325 Posted April 7, 2014 #48 Share Posted April 7, 2014 i think people know how to use the search. I do, and i still ask questions. The reason being that there are many people who use this site. Every person has their own opinions and experiences. Someone, who may not have visited cc for a month or so or just missed a thread on a topic previously discussed may see mine and have a different opinion or insight into what i am asking. What i am not looking for (and i'll bet i'm speaking for a lot of others) is a four page thread of people telling me to search it, or brow beating me because a hot button topic was raised. If you are sick of seeing a topic, don't open it. If you don't want to add useful info, don't comment. agreed!!!!!!!

triptolemus Posted April 7, 2014 #50 Share Posted April 7, 2014 It's worth mentioning that there is a difference between "censorship" a la freedom-of-speech and proper forum moderation. If you'd like to learn what the different means to cruise critic, start a thread about the DSC and then start one recommending your PCC/TA by name...
