Yesterday here in Canada they reported severe or extreme sea sickness not norovirus. So far today no more reporting on Grandeur.

Yes people got sick n a cruise ship. They have to report it to CDC. It happens everyday even in Hotels and Convention Centers but they are not required to report it. The New Media thinks it is news worthy to tell you someone is sick and they spread it to another person on a cruise ship. No big deal it happens all the time in crowded places like stores, malls, hotels, restaurants but they do not have to report it.

I have been watching this very closely as we sail on Grandeur on the 19th. An interesting "barometer" of the severity of the outbreak, to me, has been reading the Meet & Mingle from the 4//5 sailing. On the pages post cruise, most are posting that they didn't realize it was even an issue until they saw the cleaning crews donned in haz-mat suit starting the deep clean as they were disembarking. There is one poster who had sick family members that is still very positive about her cruise experience as well. I have been i pre-cruise mode for over a week. Washing the heck out of my hands and avoiding shaking hands.

Our daughter and son-in-law just got off the April 5 Grandeur sailing - their honeymoon and first cruise. We picked them up in Baltimore and so got to hear all about their trip.

Noro precautions in place throughout the whole cruise ... no serving yourself in the buffet, hand sanitizer everywhere with frequent reminders to wash hands as well, and they observed constant cleaning and wiping everywhere of railings, etc.

It didn't seem to detract from their fun but was definitely a presence. They stayed healthy, thank goodness.

Around 100 passengers sick, from what they heard, and a smaller number of crew members.

Just finished watching local news here in Baltimore and they report that there was an extensive cleaning of the entire ship and that the Grandeur departed two hours later than scheduled. Two norovirus outbreaks in a row, sounds like a crew related issue. Hopefully those that departed yesterday have a safe and illness free cruise. Have a great weekend everyone.

Hello Everyone,

I was just off the Grandeur of the Seas and was one of the sick. Was confined to my cabin for a day and a half. The crew is exhausted from all the cleaning, but they still have a smile on there face. I was on deck 8 and when we opened the door there were Bio-Hazard bags hanging from the rail across from our room and when you look down the hallway there was a lot more of them. Plus our room steward was in a bio-suit and had a mask and still had a smile. Other than that I think it was a good trip met a lot of nice people.

It definitely does NOT sound like a crew related issue. It's the passangers bringing it on the ship. Grandeur isn't the only ship being affected by Noro.

This is the way the news reports like to talk…..blame it on the ship or blame it on the crew. IT'S THE PASSENGERS WHO ARE BRINGING IT ON BOARD.

We were on the Grandeur when the first episode hit….NO CREW became ill on that sailing. If I were to place blame it would be with the 400+ kids we had on that sailing or the woman I saw puking ON BOARDING DAY!!

I agree with you 100%. The problem is 1. people never admit to being sick on boarding day. Also, people DON'T WASH THEIR HANDS!. So many times cruising in the past, I have been in the public bathrooms and seen people walk out the stall and walk right out. I even told a woman once that she didn't wash her hands. Her reply was 'I didn't touch the toilet, I used my food to flush' I was in shock... who says that??! And also these same nasty people that don't wash, do you think they encourage their kids to wash hands?? No:mad:

Actually, a back to back outbreak is usually related to ill crew members, as they are the ones who bridge between the two cruises. The real barometer of whether or not it is a crew related issue is when the cases start on the second cruise, and whether or not the daily incidences had decreased at the end of the first cruise. Only the CDC outbreak follow up report will tell for sure.

It occurs on multiple cruises on the same ship, and it's the passengers bringing it onboard??? Hmmmm

If you took the time to actually look at the CDC website you would see that not only grandeur but other cruise lines have had outbreaks, Princess cruise line had an out break the same time as grandeur. is it the crew there too?

We were on IOS B2B many times in a row in Feb/Mar. We had a small noro outbreak on one of the cruises in the middle of our set of cruises. The ship was fine and then a new group of passengers came on and we were in special cleaning mode day 2?

It was controled and then was fine for the our next B2Bs. We didn't see special cleaning methods continued into the next cruise. So, sounds like passengers brought it on!

We were on that sailing with you. One day, Key West maybe:confused:, we walked through the casino, and off to the side of the elevators was a taped off (think "Police line, do not cross) section with a large amount of vomit. I actually smelled it before I saw it . There was also a crew member standing there making sure no one came near.

My hubby got ill the day before we disembarked. Hit him all of a sudden. We were on the pool deck. We were going to go to the cabin, but only made it as far as the bathrooms next to the elevator. Yes, he vomited :(. But that was the only time. Very nauseous though. No diarrhea. He remained in the cabin until we disembarked. I did offer to call medical, and he said if he vomited again, I should do that. Did he have noro, or just an upset stomach from too many lobsters from the night before :o??? I don't know. I never became ill, and I was in close contact with him the entire time. It took him 5 days to feel his normal self.

We did have 6 crew members sick on our sailing, according to the CDC report. And it was definately ruled norovirus

Did the CDC website say that the outbreaks were caused by passengers and not crew, or is that just your opinion?

I never said to check the CDC website for them to say it was caused by passangers. Did you actually READ my post. I said the Website simply shows that not only Grandeur of the seas but other cruise ships and cruise lines are having Noro around the same time and more than one time. So in reply to the post that said 'oh grandeur had it back to back must be the crew' I am saying they aren't the only one. SO I reiterate, check the site

Viruses are running rampant this time of year. I work in a school and if you do the math, the percentage of people getting sick on the ship is far lower than what I see in school on any given day.

Some people must have missed Hygiene 101 and would never think to wash their hands. It is just the way it is.

I did read your post. I was referring to one of your earlier posts, where you said:

"It's the passangers bringing it on the ship."

I was just trying to figure out if you had seen some concrete information that would result in that conclusion (like from the CDC website), or is it just your opinion?
