jules815 Posted April 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2014 We have always stayed at the Residence Inn at Port Canaveral. It's always been our go-to hotel when we cruise. Nice place, clean and close to the port. However, one of the reasons it works well for us is they have that 2 bed/bath suite that's great when our grown daughters cruise with us. Just booked a room there for our my husband and I, but noticed there's also a Courtyard down the road. They're offering a AAA special of $125 and the Residence Inn has no special rates for our night; it's coming in at $198. I know Courtyard doesn't offer free breakfast, but that's quite a difference. Anyone here ever stay at the Courtyard?

Robinola Posted April 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2014 I only stay at The Courtyard Marriott in Cocoa Beach before and/or after my cruises. I love this hotel. I usually book the whirlpool room. It's wonderful. Best is, you can walk to Ron Jon's Surf Shop, Publix across the street, Dairy Queen, Boston's Seafood (yum!), there's an excellent itallian restaurant within walking distance, the Cocoa beach surf shop....it goes on an on. Walking distance is good! Also, you cross over a bridge for ocean/beach access. Obviously I love it here and am booked for two nights post cruise later this year with park and cruise with shuttle service. It is super clean and ultra modern. There is a bistro downstairs just in case you need something. Best location in my opinion. Very quick ride to the port.
Caribbeansunrise Posted April 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2014 As a general rule, Courtyards will always be nice but we prefer Hilton properties and stay at Hilton Cocoa Beach when leaving out of Port Canaveral.
CalifGirl67 Posted April 13, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2014 We will be leaving from Port Canaveral and staying in a hotel the night before as we are flying in the day before cruise. We also have AAA and they 1st recommended the Hilton i think and I didn't like the reviews so asked them to find another hotel that would have a shuttle back to the airport because we will have transfers to the port. I assume the port and airport are close to each other? Thanks

I assume the port and airport are close to each other? Thanks No they are almost an hour apart. You'll be flying into MCO-Orlando most likely and none of the hotels will have "FREE" shuttles from MCO to the property You can book a shuttle service if you want..I like Cocoa Beach Shuttle - they were great and I think they give a discount if you mention Cruise Critic... I stayed at the Sheraton Four Points and loved it. Lots of stuff to walk to...opposite Ron Jon's surf shop, many restaurants close by....they have a pay shuttle to the pier, but I was driven by a friend.... The Country Inn, Residence Inn and Radisson are nice (though I was just at the Radisson a couple weeks ago and IMO it needs so sprucing up....nothing wrong with it, it's just popular and is almost always busy..) The Courtyard and Hampton Inn are also nice..

I assume the port and airport are close to each other? Thanks As Meg mentioned the Orlando Airport is not close to Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach. It is at least an hour if there are no acccidents on the Beachline Expressway Rt. 528. The one hotel I have heard that does have a shuttle that picks you up at the airport (MCO) is the Hampton Inn. It is a package deal including transportation to hotel from airport, hotel to the cruise port, and pick up from ship and return to airport. It is a little bit more expensive for this package. All other hotels would require you to use a local shuttle service such as Cocoa Beach Shuttle or Travel Lynx. Another option would be to rent a car one way each way before and after the cruise. jules815 Posted April 14, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) Well I just canceled our reservation at the Residence Inn and booked the Courtyard in Cocoa Beach. Like I mentioned, we have always stayed at the Residence Inn pre-cruise; we like it there a lot. We were able to get a AAA rate at Courtyard and will be saving $59. It's just my husband and I, and I know we won't be spending $59 on breakfast. It also meets our criteria; free wifi, coffee available in room, and a little bar poolside. We've stayed at other Courtyards when we travel, and so far those have all been nice. It's not as close to the port as the Residence Inn, but I think we can handle the 4.2 miles that google maps tells me it is. (And it's even closer to our favorite pre-cruise restaurant; Roberto's Little Havana. Great Cuban food in Cocoa Beach.)
