S&S & punching a hole

 Share

Recommended Posts

I assume most folks use lanyards and I was interested in knowing if at the Maryland terminal they would punch a hole in the S&S card when they give it to you, if you ask? I would hate to have to bring a hole puncher just of that purpose but I thought I would do that and get the kids used to wearing it right then & there rather then later after we find the casino for them to punch the hole. Thanks!!

Not sure, every time we have sailed we had to go to Guest Services on the ship to get them punched. It would be nice if Carnival would go ahead and order the cards with the holes pre-punched...

They might punch the hole for you, but wouldn't have a lanyard to put it on. I would probably order clear pocket lanyards that they wear around the neck and don't require a hole punch or just go directly to guest services and have them punched but again they won't have lanyards at guest services.

I don't do lanyards, I do not want to feel like I am at work while on vacation. I have to wear a badge around my neck all day, so when I go on vacation I just carry the card around in a pocket, and more often than not I am carrying my wife's card as well.

I like to think of it as I GET to go to guest services. Let's see... would I rather be sitting at my desk or going to guest services.....hmmmmm :)

After getting your card punched, check it to be sure they punched the right end! After we got ours punched we trekked all the way aft to our balcony and when we tried to use it, they had punched the side that you have to insert into the door! So had to trek all they way back and have them re-punch it the correct way. From now on I will check.

They will punch at Guest Services. But, I don't get it, with people wearing them fully seen, in ports. There is NO better way to state- I'm leaving today. Just ripe for any pick pockets. Same with those who store their licenses/passports. Some places you could go to, those are VERY valuable. OK, I'm a New Yorker and retired Prison employee. My neck wallet, is ALWAYS inside my shirt.

We have 6 in our party and I got the 3 guys NFL ones to wear (of their respected team of course) and I am in contact with a lady who is making me 3 beaded/ribbon ones (so it won't snag hair and look a bit fancy). I plan on giving them out in the terminal as gifts once we get them. They are easy enough to take off the lanyard anytime we want to put it in our pocket or me my purse (like dinner etc) if I want to. None of us wear then for work (I used to for 9 years at a major retail chain) so I know it won't bother me to wear them. And the goal would not to be be wearing them in plain site once off the ship in ports.

Thanks for letting me know that there "might" be a chance they do it in the terminal. And yes, I will make sure they punch the right side....I never even thought of that!!

We never thought of it either. This was our third cruise and boy were we surprised! But from now on we'll check. Also the first time they punched they used a tiny hole punch and really had to force it on the lanyard as the hole was so small. Second time they used a regular sized hole.

We only wear them around our necks on the ship. Once off the ship, they go in the backpack until we are ready to board the ship again.

My cruise bag has a hole punch in it at all times as well as my lanyard, power strip, magnets, small plug in clock radio and an extra magnetized non-credit card (for the safe). That way when I check in I punch my card immediately and hook it around my neck. No chance I will drop it, lose it, misplace it etc. I have done this for every cruise but my first few. Works out perfectly. No lines to wait in either.

I personally like to wear it while on ship, as I'm typically walking around with no purse while on the ship. For that reason, it's nice to wear on a lanyard. Once at port...it's tucked out of sight or in my purse or backpack. Even without wearing it in plain sight while at a port...almost everyone off of a cruise ship looks like an obvious tourist...so that screams "ripe for pick pockets" anyhow.

But... how would they let everyone know they're Platinum, Diamond/Diamond Plus or Elite?

Who cares?? :) There are hundreds of platinums now sailing most ships, and they announce the Diamond people. :)

As I said, I wear a neck wallet, that doesn't get removed. The chances are increased of loosing a card with putting it on and off.

The pants pocket idea is excellent.

The Casino still provides this service.

Hate to say it but this is not always true. Last time we went to the casino and asked them to punch it and if we could have a stretchy lanyard thingy. The hostess asked us if it were for kids. When we said yes, we were told that it was policy not to punch them for kids or give them a lanyard as that would be a "hanging" hazard.

Now we just take a hole punch with us and do it ourselves.

When we were waiting to board we noticed a couple that already had them on their lanyards. They brought their own hole punch so DH borrowed it. :D. We only wear them on the ship. They go in wallet (secure) when in port. (Even though it's pretty easy to identify cruisers )

+1 even most swimsuits have a pocket to hold a sail and sign card.
