Yes, sailed on that Veendam , in 1988 when it sailed as the Bermuda Star when they did the Mexican run, I think it was Admiral cruise line.

What was funny was that some of the signs around the ship still had the HAL logo's etc.

Thanks for sharing.

sailed on a couple of those. I loved the old N Amsterdam compared to the new one. I know, I know,, I am in the minority.

1957 Statendam. My first cruise ever. It was the best time, and turned me on to cruising.

1959 Rotterdam. My favorite ship ever. I had over 70 days on her, and sailed on her final cruise. Loved that ship.

Thanks for the pics.

The 'old' Niieuw Amsterdam... as you call it.... what I can call it?

Hmmmm..... how about.... A REAL BEAUTY!!!! I would take the old NA to any Nnew NA... any day. Don't Tamirind, don't huge show lounge, don't need ANY balconies... don't 'as you wish' etc etc. I'm not saying that the new ship is not special... just that the old NA was a great ship and the style... for those 1983 to 2000 years .... were fun years.

You tell one ship in the fleet can beat the old Crow Nest, bars, Explorers etc etc!

Forget balconies.... nice cabins... then get out on deck and about with EVERYONE. It was real cruising. Sadly so much cruising is more about 'hotel' than ships.

End of rant. :)

Old Veendam, Volendam, Westerdam, Rotterdam..... Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Ruth,

Yes, that final cruise was fantastic... but so sad some times too.

My total days on board ROTTERDAM between 1993 and 1997... just 316 days. Plus an additional 21 days in 1998 on board REMBRANDT.... and in 2012... four more days on board 'hotel' DE ROTTERDAM in Rotterdam. Will always love that ship. Lots of very special on that ship as well.

Stephen
