Mariner #'s

Recommended Posts

Interesting, my partner and I both took our first cruise-ever- in 2012

My mariner # starts with 278

Hers starts with #423

Same cruise,same cabin.

Due to a paperwork mix up she was listed as the third passenger in the cabin not the second. Don't ask about the mariner day cruise credits she lost-that was a disaster.

but since then she gets better email deals than I do or the rest of my family. She's our secret HAL weapon. No idea how this matters though.

So 294 or 296 are the codes for peeps that get good pricing and bennies:D.

Hmmm.. Ours start with 031 (9 numbers) & we received the same suite e-mail. with excellent pricing.. Our first HAL cruise was in 1998..

I've always wondered why DH's & my Mariner Number's were so far apart? His ends in 883 & mine ends in 899.. However, if we remove the last digit of both, then they are sequential..

One poster wondered if it may have to do with the area in which we all reside.. That's an interesting idea & may be right../SIZE]

I don't think so. We got 044 after our first HAL cruise in 2002, booked through a Melbourne (FL) TA. In Dec 2007 we put down a deposit with our TA for our DD/DSiL living in Orlando. Theirs start with 375.

I wasn't referring to the mariner number. POA mentioned having a different number on emails.

Interesting suppositions. My number starts with 037 (and yes, it's 9 digits) and I started cruising HAL in 1988. DH's number starts with 044 and started cruising nearly a decade after I. Guess mine came from the coffee can too:p

This has been very interesting. To add my two cents to anyone who is still playing with numbers, at first blush DH and my Mariner numbers appeared to be eight numbers apart but are sequential if we drop the 9th digit. When I enter the first 8 numbers in the calculator, the system's next check number is indeed the number on our accounts. When I enter all 9 numbers, they verify (checksum 0).

We took our first HAL cruise in 1986 and our numbers start with 012. We had taken two Princess cruises prior to this (1984 and 1985).

We lived in FL when we got our numbers, moved to IL but our numbers never changed.

Our Princess and Cunard numbers are the same. I believe they share the marketing function out of Los Angeles.

First cruised 1999, nine digits start 033, numbers are sequential through 8 digits with checksums correct.

This what I tally from Mariner numbers and dates reported. Basically low numbers are first with some exceptions which might be anomalies or advertising numbers instead of Mariner numbers or my clerical error.

I decided to CHAT with HAL about Mariner #s. The response was short and to the point.

They are assigned at random.

That is all they said.

And we always believe everything Seattle says. Right? ;)

I'd call BS on that. Spouses wouldn't get sequential numbers.

What are the odds that a HAL rep would have bad info?

About 98 per cent. That said, one person on this board used to work for Hal and they chose to rip me a new one for saying stuff like this. I guess it's a secret :D;).

How would a phone rep know how the computer program assigns numbers? ;)

It could indeed be random but when more that one new HAL cruiser is on the same booking it assigns them sequentially. :)

Why not say that they don't know then. I guess it's much better to make something up;).

Here's another data point, or 5. My wife, son and I all went on our first HAL cruise together in 2009. Her # started with 302, mine 401, our son 379. All conformed to the Luhn algorithm.

My son and I have the same name, and HAL's system got badly confused as to who was who. In a long and painful effort to resolve it, the two of us have had a total of 5 Mariner numbers, beginning with 379, 401, 259, 253 and 379 again. 4 of the 5 obey the Luhn algorithm. His final number does not. Go figure....

Yep. They're assigned randomly except when they're not.

Have you ever asked New Yorkers for directions? ;) They'd rather say anything rather than admit they don't know. I don't do that - I will admit when I don't know. :D

I would just like to know why half the time I enter my mariner number on HAL's website it tells me its invalid. And, why do I need to enter my name and birthdate every time I want to look at criuse prices? Shouldn't your mariner number be sufficient?

I don't know, but I have 2. My maiden name one was circa 2003 that started with 04 something. I used that number to book all subsequent cruises, but HAL decided that married name = new Mariner number. That was circa 2005 or 2006 and that number starts with 06.

I've never cared enough to let HAL know I have two numbers. Miss Nessa receives different offers based on her Mariner number than Mrs. Nessa with a different Mariner number.

Do all of your days accumulate to the old 04 number?

My DH and I have different last names, and our numbers are radically different no matter how you look at it, so unless he has been cruising with someone else and I don't know about it, may be it is based on something different...... Mine as I have said is 003 and his is 04????

I see you said you started cruising in late '80s ... was his first HAL cruise in the 2000 to 2003 or early 2004 range?
