Production Shows Decreased 😥

I sailed on Carnival Conquest on May 4th thru 11th and I was very disappointed by the lack of entertainment. Even in the recent past carnival used to have a show in the main show lounge every night of the cruise. Having the ability to go to the main show go to the comedy club and go to karaoke every night if I wish was one of the things that makes carnival my favorite cruise line. On the carnival sunshine in February I was disappointed by the small showroom and the fact that they had only 4 shows during a seven day cruise. But it got even worse on the conquest. They had only three shows during the seven days! The rest of the time in the main showroom they did lame activities like Hasbro the game show (twice!!!), the not so newlywed game and the passenger talent show. I don't mind the passenger talent show because I think it's kind of entertaining to see my fellow passengers perform and their families really enjoy it but it should be only one night not multiple passenger participation in activities masquerading as entertainment during the week.

Is anyone who has cruised recently aware of any of the Carnival ships that still offer a production show, karaoke, AND comedy club every night?

We were on Liberty this past January, and they still had the 10 pc band & production shows.

We'll be on Conquest next January so I'll get to experience Playlist Productions! I plan on going in with a good attitude as I've been warned through CC!

I'm sorry you were disappointed by the small showroom on the "new" Carnival Sunshine. On the Carnival Destiny, it used to be much larger before it was converted to not only the main show lounge, but the nightclub as well. In the process, they turned one deck that was previously occupied by the theater into staterooms.

Karaoke being offered is more up to the Cruise Director who schedules the events, rather than the ship. Ships without Fun Ship 2.0 may have the older styled shows, previous to the "brilliant" introduction of Playlist Productions and will have fewer nights with guest-provided entertainment in the main show lounge. Although, you will still see Game Show Mania, the marriage show and bingo there in place of Hasbro.

Don't be surprised if in the next series of ship makeovers the theater is "upgraded" to make more shops and inside balcony cabins.

Right now, it's not a revenue generating space, and I doubt CCL could charge admission to its shows.

On Triumph last year, even though they had already gone through the 2.0 upgrades, they still had 5 shows other than the passenger talent show. And it was only a five day cruise! One night they had two shows which sort of made up for the following night having the passenger talent show. Do you know if they still do that on triumph?

Ever heard of Carnival Live?

No idea, I've never sailed on the Carnival Triumph and it may be a long time before I sail with Carnival again.

I was also disappointed that they did not have the "big" show every night on my last (last year) 7 night cruise. It is one of the biggest draws of cursing over all inclusive resorts. I'll see what I get on my 4 night cruise in June...

Until last week I have only sailed carnival and was happy with the entertainment.

But I gave royal a try and wow the difference is day and night. What I e x experienced last week has made me realized that carnival needs to step up there game or they will loose the folks like me that are looking for mow then hairy chest contests.

Also the price difference is huge. So if you want cheaper rates I guess that comes with cheap entertainment

Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess, Holland America and Celebrity all have very similar pricing structures and Carnival is not always the cheapest...

Thou I disagree with you for arguments sake let's say you're right all that says its carnival keeps more of the money in their pockets and doesn't spend it on entertainment

I would try the other cruise lines again except that my experiences away from carnival during the past few years has been disappointing. While the other cruise lines did have a show every night they didn't have anything else. Unless you're young and can disco there was nothing to do after the show. On my last RCCL cruise they had Karaoke but only had about 100 songs on their list and it took place for only about 1 hour during the show so it was a choice of going to the show or going to karaoke but it was impossible to do both. If you went to karaoke after the show they had a long waiting list and so there was no way to sing. And while some of the evening shows were comedians they did not have a dedicated comedy club. The same situation was the case on my last cruise on Island Princess. No matter how good the show I don't want to go to bed at 10 pm and I want more than one hour of non game show sit down entertainment per night.

Have these things changed???

I can't speak on the Carnival Conquest, but I can relate to you. I am a frequent cruiser and have notice the decrease in entertainment when I sailed on the carnival breeze earlier this year. They had the same comedian for each day and they had all the same activities that was on the dream. They could at least change trivia up a little. It's the same trivia with the same questions and answers. If this was someone's first cruise it could be fun, but when you are a frequent cruiser, it kinda gets boring. This is why I'm now considering doing one of NCL New ships.

We are platinum and have seen a steady decline in entertainment.

JH keeps saying that entertainment will be improved but so far other than a pay to see concert have not seen any changes.

Going on Conquest in Sept and hoping they have a good PB guy and cover band.

In Feb on Glory highlight was PB and table magician. Rather sad to see how Carnival has fallen in this area.

Shows are not a draw for us. People watching on deck, sightseeing, relaxiing and being on vacation are our desires and why we cruise. If we wanted a show we would go to a venue that specialized in them. Our last cruise we did not attend a single one and don't feel we missed out on anything. IMHO it's a vacation, a time to relax and recharge.

I just sent an email to carnival telling them what I have told you here. I ended my email by telling them "I am giving you fair warning that I am searching for a cruise line that will give me the variety that carnival formerly did in entertainment options. I think all of us platinum and diamond passengers who cruise frequently should write to carnival and express our feelings so that maybe they will change these practices. While I may not book their most expensive suite every time I cruise, I cruise on average 4 times per year, as do many others here, and they should value our opinions.

I respect your opinion....but our group has always loved the shows. We relax, people watch, sightsee, and like the shows.

We have done Vegas and other places with shows.....and it's not the same.

Everyone vacations and relaxes in their own ways....just because I don't gamble in the casino or go to the lido deck activities like "Hairy Chest Contest," I don't want to see those options go away.

I agree. For me it's all about having choices. I might not go to the show every night, even if one is available, but I want to have the option to do so. I don't go to the hairy chest contest but some people enjoy it. ( I'm not quite sure why on that one!) I don't go to the Hasbro the game show or the newlywed game show either but some people enjoy them. But those are game shows not production shows so they should show those in the afternoons on Sea days rather than pretending these are production shows for evening entertainment. I would rather them put several of the comedians in the main show lounge and show them in a forum with enough room to fit everybody in it rather than to have game shows in there.

Carnival cares not of your loyalty, they show that on a consistent basis so just move on as others and myself have done.

Respect yours also. As we did not start cruising till later in life we probably don't know what we are missing. I have enjoyed many onboard productions in the past, "Ticket To Ride" on the Freedom comes to mind. As our next cruise is the Freedom repo and they will have "Playlist" then we will give it a shot. What I am saying is that the productions are not why we cruise. We all cruise with different expectations. What I miss more is the live music on Lido, not the DJ's they have now. Doesn't have to be a steel drum band but something live.

Miss the live music too!!! We loved the Freedom...in fact it is our favorite ship so far! It was in 2012 (before it was in dry dock) and it was out of FLL then. Looks like the same itinerary as when you went in early 2013. We were surprised with how much live music they had on that cruise.

Have fun...hope it's the best cruise ever for you!! :)

After 16 cruises with Carnival since 2004 I really saw a gradual decline of entertainment and was finding them "same old". In April I tried the ncl Epic and was wowed by the entertainment. Great shows in the main theatre, fabulous live music in several venues every night, live band on the lido. Had a great time - trying the Breakaway in September.

In fairness they did have several small bands in various locations on my last two cruises. But I don't enjoy that as much as karaoke and the comedy club so I just want them to have a big show every night and then have those other two venues. If I could find another affordable cruise line with as much karaoke and comedy as carnival but with more and better shows I would switch Cruise Lines in a flash.

Our last cruise with CCL was in December 2012 on The Breeze. The evening "shows" were pathetic, when they existed, as opposed to being told that the newly wed game is now an evening production show.

We likewise have moved on to cruise lines that still offer real entertainment and I'm sure CCL could care less. :-/
