kenandlaura06 Posted August 6, 2005 #26 Share Posted August 6, 2005 I spent about 7 hours on my last cruise, purely for sleep and getting ready. It was an interior cabin with bunk beds! We will spend more time in our balcony cabin on Freedom!
Hondu Posted August 6, 2005 #27 Share Posted August 6, 2005 To those people who say "why book a nice cabin, we're never in it..." my husband always responds...well if you had a better cabin you might Not true. We we started out with outside cabins on our first 2 cruises, then tried an inside, and finally a balcony. Out of our 17 cruises so far, we have stayed mostly in insides. We did not spend more time in the cabin due to the balcony because we just like to be in the thick of things so to speak. I just don't like the isolation of staying in the cabin. rubrrick Posted August 6, 2005 #28 Share Posted August 6, 2005 We enjoy a little more space on our cruises as we get older. Both my DW and I enjoy reading quietly on sea days. We also enjoy entertaining, so we mostly cruise in suites. We started out, a few years ago with an oceanview cabin, and with all of the activity on board, that's all we needed. We tried an inside cabin once, and I got claustriphobic!! 30 plus cruises later, we both enjoy a little more space. Rick
Coralc Posted August 6, 2005 #29 Share Posted August 6, 2005 You always hear that phrase about "not spending time in your cabin" . Must be folks with inside cabins. We actually spend a lot of time in ours. Enjoying the balcony, enjoying each other, watching movies, enjoyong the sunset, without the hussle of the ship. We enjoy our cabins AND the cruise. :)

madforcruising Posted August 6, 2005 #31 Share Posted August 6, 2005 I had to vote 8-10 hours as there was nothing above. Well on port days this may be the correct range but on sea days it can be more. I like the quiet privacy of my cabin. There are 6-8 hours night sleep. App. 2 hours of afternoon nap. Some relaxing time on the balcony, in the cabin, reading a book, etc. I´m not the type of person enjoying to lounge around the pool or hang around in the bars and lounges. I use the cruise to realy relax.

cincicruisers Posted August 6, 2005 #33 Share Posted August 6, 2005 I think one of the best thing about cruising is the choices. We love having a balcony and I like to read and feel the sea air. BF sleeps late and I am an early riser. Love just sitting on the balcony and reading and relaxing enjoying a leisurly room service breakfast. Other days is go go go until we just come back and pass out sleeping as we are so tired. We do like to watch from balcony as it gets close to departure time. Last minute arriving passengers are pretty funny, especially in Cozumel. :)
CoachTerry14 Posted August 6, 2005 #34 Share Posted August 6, 2005 We spend a good portion of our time in our cabin so we always book a suite. It is not that we aren't social, but we like to read, nap, hang out on the balcony... We really enjoy the space a suite has to offer. I couldn't agree with you any more! We love the suites! stargate fan Posted August 6, 2005 #35 Share Posted August 6, 2005 We had an ocean view cabin for our first cruise. We had balconies for our last two and for our next cruise. We decided that once you go balcony, you can't go back. We spend a couple of hours in the cabin, usually late afternoon, after spending lots of time in the sun and before we have to shower for dinner. We find the best feature of a balcony cabin is sleeping with the door open. There is nothing like falling asleep to the sounds of the sea. Many people make their cabin choice based on the idea that they won't spend much time in there anyways .... I'm interested to see how much time people actually spend in their cabin? Murphy Posted August 6, 2005 #36 Share Posted August 6, 2005 I didn't respond to the poll because this changes a lot for us depending on itinerary and the cabin we have. Our last cruise was on the Celebrity Horizon and we slept, changed and showered in the cabin and that was about it. If the cruise is port intensive that would be our normal thing. But on a cruise with a lot of sea days or cooler weather we spend a lot more time in the cabin. Our next cruise sails from Quebec City and we end up with Fort Lauderdale with basically 5 days at sea. I expect we'll spend close to 12 to 14 hours or more a day in our first ever Owners Suite!
digital_curator Posted August 6, 2005 #37 Share Posted August 6, 2005 We had a PR room on the Navigator and we were in it more than I would have thought (though it was cool and very windy on deck so we would only go up for short periods of time- talk about a cruise with no chair hogs:D ) We slept 6-8 hours a night. Often spent 1 hour after port to get out of the sun (got room service once for a late lunch), nap. watch a movie/tv 1 hour to get ready for dinner We also watched the parades in our rooms On port days we spent less time there but it probably worked out to about 10 hours a day. If we had had a balcony room we might have spent more time there, for room service breakfast, etc. If we would have had an inside room, I would have only been in it to sleep, shower, and change! Cheers,

ckrobyn Posted August 6, 2005 Author #39 Share Posted August 6, 2005 Lots of interesting responses! My first cruise was a balcony and I loved it - spent a lot of time out there watching and listening to the sounds of the ocean :) I doubt I would ever go less than a balcony. I also appreciate luxury and enjoy the added space and amenities that the suites offer. We typically spend 8-10 hours a day/night in the cabin - sleeping, showering, napping etc. Next cabin is the GS with a good size balcony - I'm sure we will make good use of it! WeLuvVacation Posted August 6, 2005 #40 Share Posted August 6, 2005 Had a balcony 2x spent very little extra time in it. If you like the outside cabins and all that it affords you, hey go for it, it is your vacation. We like the minimalist that an inside gives us. 9 day cruise for 719 ea VOS. Where you gonna go for that?? With all that you get!
LonW Posted August 6, 2005 #41 Share Posted August 6, 2005 Since we get balconey cabins, we spend more time in the cabin. Nicer than fighting for a seat on the deck and the bathroom & drinks are only a few steps away. On are first cruise all we had was a window, so we did not spend as much time in the room. We also don't do the bar seen.
BevMoney Posted August 6, 2005 #42 Share Posted August 6, 2005 I love spending time in my room. Especially when everyone else it out of it. Typically, besides sleeping. I love to try and get a nap in between returning from port and late seating dinner.
la_croisiere_s'amuse Posted August 7, 2005 #43 Share Posted August 7, 2005 [size=3][font=Book Antiqua]I couldn't vote in the poll, since a more appropriate total for us would be around 18 ! We book suites for that very reason: unless we have something specific to do elsewhere, we are usually relaxing on our balcony or in the suite itself. Of course, on port days the in-cabin hours go down somewhat, but still no less than 12. I guess it just goes to show that a cruise is a very versatile vacation -- if you want to be on the go 24/7, you can, but you can also just enjoy your honey's company and the sounds of the ocean. :) ONE WEEK FROM TODAY, whoo- hooooo !!! newmexicoNita Posted August 7, 2005 #44 Share Posted August 7, 2005 Actually we probably spend about 10 or 11 a day. Sea days, of course more, but even on port days. We like to get 7 or 8 hours sleep, sometimes a short nap or watch a little TV and we have to allow time to shower and change a couple of times a day. We love to walk around the ship, play trevia games, I love the casino, we do the shows and weather permitting like to soak up some sun. It still seems like we do find time to have a couple of drinks, and relax each day. I do know we did an inside cabin only once, it happened to be one of those "let it rain, let it rain, let it rain" cruises and the ship didn't plan for any additional activities thinking we would be in port most of the time. We spent many hours in our 115 sq ft cabin, watching the same thing on TV over and over and reading. That ship, hours in cabin, probably 15, hours shopping, probably 5. Does that tell you something? We just kept visiting the shops and buying, buying, buying. NMNita LOL

AmandaNS Posted November 9, 2005 #47 Share Posted November 9, 2005 Since the poll itself is closed, I'll just add my message. DH and I try for 8 hours of sleep each night, or a bit less with an afternoon nap. Add time for showering and dressing, time to read before bed, odds and ends... it would probably be around 10-11 hours each day in the cabin. We have an inside for this coming cruise; had an oceanview last time, but hardly ever looked out the window, other than to see roughly what the weather was like. With the port cam on the TV, it's our "window".
Travelgrrl Posted November 9, 2005 #48 Share Posted November 9, 2005 I almost always have had insides, here and there an outside or balcony but they really don't do anything more for me; the inside cabins are enjoyable to me, too. I like to be up on deck, being sociable, but it is sometime sooooo overwhelming that I really like going back to my cabin and decompressing a little. In fact, that's one of the things I really love about cruising; it's so easy to dart back to your room to get a book, change clothes, or whatever. You are never really far from your little "home away from home". We always decorate our door and cabin and bring nice little amenities to make our cabin even more homey. Last trip, in Jamaica, we tried to buy (but they gave us as a gift) a huge tropical flower arrangement. It was gorgeous to have in the room, and we got to enjoy it for ages because our cruise was lengthened by Hurricane Rita! (11 days) I also like to watch old movies on the little TV, either in the evening (10 PM or so, when we're not having a partyparty night), or just during the day when I need to chill out awhile. Then I'm ready to go back and join the fray! ;) So I would say I spend a fair amount of time in my little steerage cabins, running back and forth from there about a hundred times a day! heartofamerica Posted November 9, 2005 #50 Share Posted November 9, 2005 Usually just there to sleep, shower and change. I do admit that with a balcony room, we tend to take a little more time to get ready, but the extra time spent in the cabin is negligible.
