Credit card

Another thread discussed chip and pin technology, but I didn't see an answer to my question here.

In the past I've been able to use my credit card on board ship to obtain cash in form of euros, rubles, whatever. I've yet to obtain that new fangled chip and pin card, so am wondering if a regular credit card on board the Ryndam in September will suffice for obtaining euros.

Who knows?

You can get Euros or whatever from the front desk and they will charge your shipboard account. You can pay that account with a non chipped credit card. With all the data breaches going on it is only a matter of time before the US catches up with the rest of the world on chip cards.

ooo - be VERY careful about using a debit card outside the US. Use a credit card as you can at least dispute any additional charges that may crop up while with a debit card it is money that is just gone and you have no recourse. Hacking and skimming are alive and well at ATM's everywhere so if you use an ATM, as they recommend for many ports on the world cruise - do not use ATMs that are on the 'street' but go into a bank and use the machine there.

Personally we get euros or other needed currency at the front desk as the convenience is worth the extra exchange rate difference. Hate to waste time finding and using an ATM when we can just get off the ship and go.
