Decorations-Will NCL Care?

We have a balcony for the first time next week, an aft on the Getaway. We always do some decorating on our door and in the cabin, we thought about taking an inflatable 4' palm tree we have and putting it on our balcony (yes we are dorks) Anyone ever do stuff like that? Will the cruise cops come get us? :confused:

According to the rules, you are not allowed to leave items on your balcony. Due to the risk of fire or pollution (by blowing overboard).

In your room yes, on the balcony no. If it's an inflatable, it will blow overboard.

Leave it in your room and take it out on the balcony with you when you go out there. Pretty sure that if you leave it unattended it would blow away.

we would of course secure it, but yeah we will probably just take it in and out when we want it out there. I assume the door of the cabin is metal like every other ship we have been on, we have magnetic door signs we slap up.

I'm going to actually beg you reconsider that idea.

 

I've been on a vacation cruise where every single passenger and crew was affected by an inflatable item that fell from a balcony, and it was seen falling by others onboard . . . and they didn't know if it was a person or not.

 

A quick U-turn (damaging a few things onboard), a figure-S, and then a full stop resulted in several hours of uncertainty, despite someone coming forward and saying, "Hey, it was only an inflatable toy."

 

It had been secured with some rope and duct tape, but still "escaped" in the high winds that afternoon.

As others have said, things on the balcony are not allowed for obvious reasons. You can put magnets or signs or whatever on your cabin door, if you want.

We decorated our cabin door for our dd's bd on Breakaway, and will do so again on Gem in a few weeks. We had signs and balloons taped to the door. Go for it, but stay away from the balcony inflatables, as others have said.

Smoke detectors inside the cabin should also be unobstructed ... and nothing should be *secured* to them to hinder their operation ...

I had the Cruise a critic poster on my Dior on the Dawn last month and during our meet and greet we were asked to take down any signs or decorations. I left it up and no one said anything more. Helped us find our room.

We've never had issue with door decorations or cabin decor, at xmas we had a 2 foot tree and our stockings hung up in the cabin, but I was amazed at some of the full door coverings people had, and kinda surprised that the ship allowed them. One suite we visited on the cabin crawl had a full 6' xmas tree and lights all around the cabin! We have "that family" magnets and smaller name tags with our cruising alias' we stick up on the door so our new friends can find us, hopefully we don't have any enemies on the ship!:eek:

Maybe it was due to "promoting" an entity with the cruise critic poster??????

Not sure, but our M&G facilitator had a note from I believe guest services asking that we not post decorations.

 

And the numbers of course tell you where your room is, but my mother walked by it several times even with the poster.

There are a number of reasons for the no decorations request. In our case DD has a life threatening Allergy to latex balloons. In our meeting with the ships staff the door decorations are discussed and if the decorations are on doors include balloons between our cabin and the path to the elevator and stairs they will ask for them (the balloons) to be removed. We are then informed of which side of the ship hallway we are to use to access our room. A general announcement is made and included in the freestyle daily.

 

On our sailing on the dawn for the kids club the counselors actually scoped out the door decorations and took the kids on a route that avoided door decorations when going on parades around the ship.

 

We are also informed of which deck to use to traverse the ship during our sailing and which decks to avoid. During port arrivals and departures when there are balloons on certain decks we are escorted behind the scenes though crew areas.

I'm really a nice person, and I don't tamper with other people's stuff. That said, I don't think I could walk by a balloon taped to a cabin door without popping it. I wouldn't WANT to, but I just wouldn't be able to help myself. It would just happen. I would have an irresistible urge to pop it. I apologize in advance.

 

Besides, how can people not think that would get in the way? Those halls are skinny.
