Australia $$ needed for cab on arrival in Sydney?

We fly in to Sydney from

LAX and arrive on a Monday morning. Are we better off paying cash for our cab to the Four Seasons, and if so, should we change some money at the airport? Thank you!

It's much of a muchness. You can use credit cards, but there is a 5-10% surcharge (depending when you're travelling).

 

If you already have the Australian cash, use that, but if you're only intending to change it for the taxi, the hassle and cost wouldn't be worth it for a $50 taxi ride.

 

You can certainly change at the airport, with booths inside the terminal. However, the cost is likely to be around or close to 10% anyway with commission and exchange rate.

There are also ATMs at the airport so you could just withdraw some Aussie cash from one of those. Might work out cheaper than exchange fees on cash.

This is what I do if I don't have enough AUD on arrival and I need to get a cab. There are plenty of ATMs in the arrivals (greeting) area. In fact, if you exit from the "Qantas side", I think there's an ATM pretty much next to the door through which you'd exit the building to get to the taxi rank.
