Our ship will be in port from 8-5. What time does the bar hop start and what should we do before hand ? This will be GF first cruise so maybe Nachi for the day would be better. Any input is appreciated.

The bar hop starts at different times on different days depending on what ships are in port. It is best to contact Tom at the bar hop website directly to confirm what time it would be leaving on the day you are in port. Also consider ship time and local time. You would need to get to the meeting point form whatever pier you dock at but would be dropped off at your pier on return.

Nachi and the bar hop are very different excursions so cannot really advise which would be best for you. If you have any particular questions or concerns perhaps someone could help further. HTH.

Understatement of the year! ;)

Have not done bar hop (yet!) but based upon reviews it is a bus load of fun loving folks having a great time at several beach clubs, including many on the "other" side of Coz away from most of the tourist spots.

Nachi is a quiet, uncrowded, relaxing AI beach club with a small pool/hot tub, nice beach and great food/drinks/service. We love to get away from the crowds and the noise on the ship for the day and chill out.

What is important to you, and more importantly to your GF?

Well she loves a good party but I didn't want to overwhelm her on her first port of her first cruise. On my first of my first we took a cab in St. Thomas and than the ferry over to St. John. It was awesome but not the best idea for new cruisers.

Bar Hop over Nachi for us. We've done both. Loved the Bar Hop. It's not a busload of drunks, but rather just an upbeat experience. GREAT to see the other side of the island escorted by some super people who can tell you about the island, while seeing some gorgeous scenery, eating delicous foods and really getting a good taste of the island.

I've never done Nochi, but I've done the bar hop and am doing it again on July 29th! The first time I was with a group of 9 friends. This time will just be me and hubby. We had a great time. They take you to the other side of the island away from the touristy spots so it is actually very relaxing. The locations are beautiful and the food and drinks are great. You can drink as much or as little as you want. One person in our group did not drink at all and still had a blast.

At the final stop at Rasta's they even offer back massages. What could be more relaxing than that! I can't wait to go again!

I would probably go for Nachi. Always had a wonderful experience.

We did the barhop last March. It was not at all like the reports we heard of fun bus time. Since there were so many, we were in a regular city type bus and not the smaller open air ones. Not a good situation to interact with participants since the tall seat backs prohibit that. Was comfortable.

Honestly, Nachi is a better deal. On the barhop, drinks and food are the responsibility of the participants. Think more along the line of regular US prices. No good deals on that side of the island. Some of the bars get overwhelmed and you may or may not get your ordered items. Also, the drinks are really just a small sample. Think shot size.

We were glad to see the other side of the island. If we had independently taken a taxi to that side of the island, it would probably have come out about even for what we paid for the barhop.

Are we glad we did the barhop? Yes. Would we do it again? Nah. Have we done Nachi more than once? Yes. Will we go again? Absolutely!

Consider what you are doing in other ports. If you plan to do beach days elsewhere, then maybe the Bar Hop is the right choice. That way you get to experience different things in different locations.

Denamo is right, the drinks on the Hop are tastes/sample. But, I have do disagree with Denamo on the "Not a good situation to interact with participants since the tall seat backs prohibit that." Our Hop paricipants didn't have any problems interacting. Plus, on the rides between stops it really is just minutes. They are only about a mile or two apart.

So, it really depends on what you want, what else you are doing, etc. And, the Hop group you experience will be different than the group others experience. If its a small group, they may use a van. If they have enough, it could be a large bus.

Either way, enjoy, you are on VACATION!
