2-night cruise on Jewel

Recommended Posts

We had our short 2-night cruise on the Jewel on the weekend. Loved the ship and the food was great but found the staff unhelpful, unfriendly and at times downright rude. This included all staff from waiters to cabin stewards to casino staff. As a family we usually get on very well with staff having formed a few lasting friendships over the years and I have never experienced anything like this on any cruises I have been on. :(

But now looking forward to leaving for Perth on Friday prior to our 26 night cruise next Tuesday on Sea Princess.:)

Hi there,

I am surprised by your treatment on Pacific Jewel. We were on the 11 night cruise prior to your cruise and even though I had some complaints, the staff were not one of them. We found that they were great (generally). I probably won't cruise P&O again but certainly not because of the staff. I am surprised. Perhaps it was because it was a short cruise? Really no excuse at all as every cruise should receive the same service!

I also wondered if it was because it was a short but I have been on a couple previously and never experienced this:confused:

Hi,

We were also on the 2 nighter SYD - BRS on the weekend, and having not been on P&O for a number of years, we were pleasantly surprised with the ship. Liked the layout, general condition, balcony room and the younger vibe and general happening on the boat (we are frequent Princess Travellers).

However we also agree with Suey above that the staff were rude and appeared really unhappy. Our cabin steward was pleasant, but the bar staff, waiters and dining areas had the worst attitudes that I have experienced on any cruise. We are easy going people and ask for very little except to be treated as we treat others, but unfortunately the crew were generally not in the mood for even this.

Food is subjective as we all know, but I found most of the food lacking in flavour (the morning scrambled eggs and bacon were great however) which was disappointing. I also found the cocktails were unfortunately like mocktails, thus stuck to beer whenever my thirst needed quenching.

I would cruise again on P&O given the right itinerary and price, but am also happy to back cruising on the Diamond Princess later this year - they just do it better for the overall experience in my view.:)

We were also on this cruise and also found the crew disinterested.

We concluded that as it was a short cruise their chances of receiving tips was slim.

We also hoped we werent in for a Costa Concordia event as the Captain was seen around the ship entertaining a female guest on many occasions. From singing a duet with her at Kareoke to eating at the buffet with her on at least three occasions.

They met before sailaway with a handshake so were sure they only met onboard.

BTW we preferred the layout of the Peacific Pearl over the Jewel, but loved our quiet cabin (compared to our cabin on the pearl last December)

I suspect and really do hope that it is due to the length of the cruise, although I would expect the treatment of guests to be the same no matter what length cruise you are doing.

What happens if someone is doing a B2B ?

Shame it was like that in any case.:D

It didnt spoil our cruise in any way.

A nice feature of our cruise was our room attendant was the same fellow that looked after us on the Pacific Pearl in October last year when I took my daughter on a cruise.

He spotted me from 20 metres down the hallway and greeted me by name.

It didn't spoil our short break either but I was just surprised as it was something I hadn't experienced before. I am glad others noticed too and it wasn't just our view. :p

It is wonderful when that happens. We had a waiter remember us and ask about our travel companions 6 months after the first cruise.:D
