Constitution bridge in Venice

We will be getting off out ship around 8am (docks at 6:45 am) and going to the train station.I am wondering if there are usually men wanting to make a few euros for caring your bag over the steps. How much do they want? Looks like a lot of steps!!! Looking at booking a non refundable train to Rome at 9:40 and hoping this is enough time allowed, or should I book a later train?????

I've NEVER seen anyone there to assist with bags. .....

 

There are lots of steps but they're shallow which makes it easier to pull your wheeled luggage along. I didn't have any trouble but I only travel with one wheeled case and a daypack/shoulder tote.

 

Once you get off the People Mover it's a 10 minute walk, tops, to the train station, even with the steps.

If you don't think you can manage the steps, the easiest option is to take a cab to Mestre and pick up your train there.

Thanks for the info Mapleleaves. Glad to hear it is not difficult! I do pack light and pull my suitcase with me all the time, so should not be a problem.

When we were in Venice, twice, this late spring, there were men with sort of wheel barrow carts who were offering to take bags for a fee. It didn't seem to be organized in any way so they may or not be there. We could handle our own bags but I think they wanted 10 euro.

 

No guarantees however.

I would be leery of people trying to help. That can lead to a pick pocket or at the least an argument about how much is owed.

The # of steps was more of the annoyance than the height you need to pull the bag up each time. But, for me, it was manageable. I am a healthy adult male.

Listen to Mapleleaves. All Venice trains stop at Mestre. It is much easier and faster to take a cab to the station in Mestre which is 5 minutes away.

Another alternative is to take the vaporetto one stop across the canal from Piazzale Roma to the train station.
