Any Navy men out there?

Recommended Posts

DS is on FITZGERALD. He reported aboard late last October and the ship was undergoing a fairly significant refit. They sent him out on CURTIS WILBUR in November just so he could get some sea time and we have some wonderful pictures of him at the conn - with the CO very close at hand.:p FITZGERALD just finished INSURV, passed with flying colors, so hopefully they'll deploy for some more significant patrols soon. DS loves Yokosuka.

our favorite duty station. I really really REALLY miss the Blue Road and the little Yakitoryi stand in the alley....

My husband is retired BMC USN 24 yrs.

When he came home from the Persian Gulf after 11 months at sea and I told him I had booked a cruise, his comment was "why in God's name would I want to go on a ship?" He did make the trip and It was difficult for him to relax end realize he was not going to work but he ended up loving it.

We have been on many, many cruises and it is now our first choice for a vacation.

Just let him know he will not be sorry!

AHOY SHIPMATES,

[ USN 1957-1980] IN 1981 DW got orders to NATO Naples It. so we decided to take 5 day cruise on the QE2 to England and fly to Naples. When I got aboard and started looking around I was scared to death...the entire 5 days. There was NO watertight integrity. I had been a cook when enlisted and had a collateral duty as damage control PO for my division, knew what was supposed to keep a ship from sinking. Also in the lower decks none of the watertight doors would seal when closed.....I went to see the Captain and he went with me to see what I was talking about. Some officers didn't like me much after that.

Finally in 1997 DW (also ret E-8 NAVY) and I sailed again and it was much different on the HAL ship and we have been cruising a lot since then.

In addition to other nice things previously mentioned....there is the CASINO

NO morning meetings with the Dept head. Really nice are the HOT TUBS and the EYE CANDY that usually surrounds them........ONLY real problem is that MY uniforms have all shrunk so much that I gave them all to thrift shop on nearby base and now do formal nights in a TUX.

Passengers think the crew work long hours and do not have adequate living conditions. They should spend 9 months on a carrier . from the 50s

great thread

Oh, one more- no more "darken ship" at night, the ship is lit up, well, like a cruise ship:D.

On a Carrier that usually meant that "Fox was in the dip".

Launching/landing aircraft.
