A no frills wedding at sea

Recommended Posts

I like the idea also of just renewing your own vows, by yourself in front of your family..............since you dont want to mess up your legal status.

Why not at sunset.

Scope out some decks for the best site for a couple days, and make your decision.

Congratulations, and let us know what you decided.

Sea Ya

OP said they wanted to make it official and get married. They never said anything about messing up their legal status. She just said they need to see how it affects their ss(which it shouldn't as they each have their own whether they are married or not).

My suggestion is marriage is not about money and if you want to get married, get married.

Royal has been doing weddings at sea for a couple of years now. The Captain or Staff Captain officiate, and the couple is married under the laws of the Bahamas.

My bigger point was that finding a pastor wouldn't work. They can't marry anyone just anywhere.

We saw that in Dec 2012 on Indy. There was a destination wedding scheduled for our stop in Nassau. Unfortunately, thought some snafu, there was no room for us in Nassau, so we went to Freeport instead.

That must have been shocking and painful for the wedding party.

experienced cruisers know that itineraries change, but less experienced people may never think of it.

We were married while on a cruise in St Thomas. Nothing fancy, just us and our best friends. We were married by a minister barefoot on the beach. It couldn't have been more perfect. The logistics are that you have to fill out a marriage license and it must be posted in the courthouse 8 days prior to your marriage. We were told by our minister to do it 30 days ahead in case of any delays. And since St Thomas is a U.S. territory, there is no legal hassles when you return. Good luck no matter what you chose to do.
