Park and cruise hotel in New York area?

There are a lot of park/sleep options at Newark airport. From there you have to arrange a car service, take the train and cab, or take the airport bus and cab to get to the Manhattan Cruiseport.

 

Another option is to get a less expensive hotel about an hour away, drive to Port Imperial in Weehawken, NJ to park for $13-15/day, take the ferry across to 39th St.($9/pp), and walk or cab the 10+ blocks to the pier.

 

And of course you can pay $40/day to park at the pier.

I just cant see spending 40 a day to park on top of the hotel for 2 nights? there has to be a hotel that will let you park/stay and shuttle to the port right?

No park/stay/shuttles for the Manhattan Cruiseport except for Embassy Suites in

Secaucus NJ which runs $275-300 and only offers transportation to the port. You have to pay $60-75 to get back unless you take public transit.

 

Give us more details about your budget, number of people, exact dates, etc. ar you going on a 2 day cruise? The $40 charge to park at the port is actually reasonable for NYC, but it does mount up for longer cruises.

I would park at an airport- JFK, LGA or Newark. You can arrange transportation from the airport- sometimes on a bus directly with the cruise line. Or try a shuttle/car service. Super Shuttle is a good option.

 

Crazy to park in NYC. Too expensive , unless just a short cruise.

The Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inns on Staten Island have park & cruise packages. You would then have to take their shuttle to the Staten Island Ferry and once in Manhattan get a cab to the pier, or you could get car service from the hotel to the pier....pricey but still a lot less than the $40 per day option.

The hotel will shuttle you to the Staten Island Ferry and the ferry is free. Cab fare to the pier should be in the $30 range for three people. There is a $13 toll to get onto Staten Island.

 

Since you are three people, the total cost of getting from a Newark Airport hotel to Manhattan by public transit can be more. Unfortunately, it is way too early to get all the park/sleep rates for June 2015. You should expect to pay about $150 tax included for the least expensive park/sleep at the airport. Please do not book a Newark hotel without asking further advice on this board. Newark is a highly urban industrialized area that can be a real culture shock for folks from other areas of the country. You must be picky about the hotel you select - a cheap motel is not what you want in Newark.

 

The consensus on this board is that Supershuttle may not be the best option in the NYC area.

Is it 13 each time you come and or go from staten island even if you are staying there ? we do want to do some sight seeing in New York area as well while there

It's $13 to go from NJ to NY on any of the six bridges and tunnels. It is free going from NY to NJ. If you have an EZPass for your car, the toll is reduced.

 

Please answer the following questions so we get an idea of the big picture of what you want to do.

 

1). How many nights?

2). Budget?

3). How many people?

4). Exact dates

5). What do you want to see in NYC

 

We are answering specific questions, but you might not be getting good answers because we don't understand your objectives. For example, I really don't think Staten Island is the best place to stay if you want to sightsee in midtown NYC for several days. However, you might be OK with that even after you understand how long it will take to make the trip back and forth. I've taken kids into the city for the whole day from central NJ just because we had a free place to stay.

Verrazano Bridge is actually $15 round trip, you only pay one way (pay going from Brooklyn to SI, do not pay going from Staten Island to Brooklyn). It's less with an EZ Pass.
