Since the cruise is out of Seattle and they are playing it is quite likely. I was on Summit two years ago out of NJ when Giants opened the season and they had a nice affair with the game on. mpace58 Posted July 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2014 There was a lot of sports programming at the bar adjacent to the casino back in March.
drychi Posted July 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2014 Good afternoon. Last January my wife and I joined a large group of people who were watching the NCAA Championship Game on a big screen with football type food and decorations provided by Celebrity free of charge while in the Caribbean. The game was also shown on the room television and in the casino bar. I believe Celebrity tries to do this for the Super Bowl, World Series etc. if the ships are in a position to get the game by satellight. Not sure that they would necessarily put on a special event for a Thursday Night NFL game, but I bet they try to show it in the bars and on the room television system on ships with a large number of United States passengers if they can get it . Good Luck. Happy Cruising.
phoenix_dream Posted July 24, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2014 They would not likely consider Thursday night football a big event, but as long as their satellite is working you should get the game on both your room tv and in the casino bar (maybe elsewhere). For Sunday games, they often have choices of games to show depending on their satellite feed. Big fans have been known to try to talk to the Media Officer to get him/her to show their favorite team if available. I suspect the squeakiest wheel gets the grease so to speak. Sometimes games are not on the feeds so no amount of squeaking would work if that is the case:)

I had the same thing two years ago and we had the same setup as the earlier poster, small buffet and bar in the conference room. They made a lot of money at the bar. Also, the people in that area are nuts over the Seahawks.

willieg Posted July 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2014 On my last Alaska cruise we watched the Georgia/Alabama game on the TV in our room. That is the last time that the two teams met in regular season. We warned our steward that it could get loud and it did when the Dawgs were victorious. I planned better this time because Georgia has an off week when we will be cruising. I am sure the Seattle folks don't want to miss a Seahawks game. Tommy3putts Posted July 25, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 25, 2014 I know this is apples to oranges, but on our June Reflection cruise they had all the World Cup games on every day. We watched at the sunset bar every night after dinner. It was an international broadcast however. Point is NFL is a big deal in US, my bet is it will be on. JanineM Posted July 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Just a thought here - you know we're in port when the game is on ... Kickoff is at 5:30 pm Pacific. They will probably have the game on in the casino bar - if they're able to show it in port. Aren't there usually restrictions on broadcast tv when the ship is in port??? I'm not sure about this - and the fact that we'll be in a Canadian port makes the matter murkier.

Your comment about planning a cruise when the Dawgs have an off week made me laugh. My husband and I are Auburn season ticket holders and for last year's Iron Bowl, we were on a Transatlantic back to the U.S. from Barcelona. We begged Guest Relations to get the feed for the game, but were unsuccessful. We could only find out what was going on by watching the crawl at the bottom of the game ESPN was showing. After we found out how Auburn won in the last second, my husband told me to never book a cruise during football season again! LOL. koolforkatz Posted July 26, 2014 #12 Share Posted July 26, 2014 If you are actually in Victoria during the game I would just go ashore. You will likely find a pub close by viewing it. Sent from my iPad using Forums
willieg Posted July 26, 2014 #13 Share Posted July 26, 2014 Football can make us all crazy. My brother and his wife lived in Europe for a number of years and because of the time difference had to tape games and watch them on Sunday morning. All of us in the US were forbidden to comment until late in the day on Sunday. My brother could not wait for the Auburn "title" game a few years ago and stayed up all night to watch. I visited a few months later and brought him his championship hat and t-shirt. On the Solstice I am hoping for a football party like we had on Equinox one year for the Super Bowl. The crowd watching in the casino were the rowdy ones.

Just wanting to comment on your last paragraph....... I don't want to say it will never happen becuase "never" is an odd word. But I will say, for a regular football game, it is "highly unlikely" they are going to have any kind of party and nothing compared to what they do for the Superbowl......just don't be too disappointed. I sailed for the Superbowl a few years ago and that was awesome:D But for a regular football weekend? Don't expect a party.

We have sailed before during Week 1 of the season and a game was on in the casino - but certainly no party. And since we'll be IN PORT during the game, I doubt it will even be on in the casino bar, because the bar will be closed. I could be wrong - but if the game meant something to me (other than just Fantasy Football points) I would plan to find a bar in Victoria.

I have been on cruises where the crew was very in tune with such things, and on others where they were clueless. It would be nice if they did it for the fans. The games are usually shown in the casino bar - which never seems to be open when in port. Or am I delusional?
