SELF embarkment at Port o Miami

Has anyone here done it?

Since we are cruising with a little one, we have one carry on size spinner suitcase full of just diapers and food, but we also have half of my large suitcase full of baby clothes & necessities too which I really cant wait til its on board. Nor can we deal if it gets misplaced til the late evening, the next day or worse. I am NOT worried about the hassle, the large suitcase and the smaller carry on are both spinners, one of us can push the baby in an umbrella stroller and the other handle the spinner luggage.

If you HAVE self embarked at Port of Miami or any other port, how was it? Did the port authority or your cruiseline (in my case Carnival) frown on you for doing it?

The issue is getting a large suitcase through security screening. The belt is like an airport so it is not meant for a very large suitcase.

As Joihnin DC said your best option is to use smaller bags but that is not going to be practical in terms of rolling them up to the ship.

I would put priority items in a carry on and keep the bulk of items in a larger suitcase that you check.

Agree that you need to downsize to true sized carry ons.

If need be, reorganize your bags before checking, pulling a few things out of the big bag before checking it. You cannot carry on anything that won't fit the security belt/scanner. Even throwing necessities in a beach bags or back pack would work. LOTS of people bring back packs to carry home their purchases.
