a liquor question?

A sweetened liquor with the instilled flavour of herbs found around the Provence region of France where the drink originates, with Marseille being the "capital". Flavour and taste varies from distiller to distiller but the primary/predominant taste is aniseed/liquorice.

Drunk with diluted with cold water (1:-5 parts pastis:water) as an aperitif.

Possibly better known by its main trade name 'Pernod'.
I see you can bring all the soda and water you want, but is Clamato juice ok?
You can bring as much as you like of anything non-alcoholic. I don't know why so many people say just "soda and water".

I will be traveling for the first time on HAL. I went to the site but didn't see hard liquor. Where do I prepurchase alcohol?

Thank You - this is exactly what I wanted. Where on the HAL web site can I find this, or is available only with a booking number?

You need a booking number and can find it under the Indulgences Tab. Since I have a booking number, I took the items from their list and sorted them by liquor type so it is easier to understand.

We just sailed and for $44 we pre-ordered a full 1 litre bottle of Crown Royal to be in our cabin when we boarded. For the difference in price it surely wasn't worth attempting to sneak it aboard.

We used the "Indulgences" tab for booked guests on the HAL site to find and order it. Edited by summersigh

Imagine staying in a hotel that searched your bags and confiscated any booze you had??

I certainly understand restricting booze to your room and not public areas but do cruiselines have to turn so many of their guests into smugglers?

I don't think the intention of the cruise line is to force guests into being smugglers. :) We choose to pay for the alcohol we consume onboard. (except for the bottle of wine allowed for each of us)

Profits the cruise lines make on alcohol, the casino, gift shops, pictures etc etc are the things that help keep the cruise fares low even as costs go up.

The cost of an Alaska land-sea tour is nearly the same today as it was back when we went.

Imagine that the accommodations moved from place to place. You know. Like transportation. Then imagine that you could only take 3.4 ounces of liquid with you. :D

This restriction is a fairly recent practice. Back in the days when cruise lines allowed passengers to benefit from the line's savings on duty-free alcohol few passengers would bother bringing their own. It never occurred to me to bring anything on board when I was paying 25 cents for a gin and tonic or $2 or $3 for a bottle of wine.

Cunard, despite being a Carnival company, has the most liberal policy that I am aware of. They quote the same restriction as HAL, then in the next sentence say they don't invoke the rule unless "we consider it likely that the health, comfort, safety and enjoyment of passengers may otherwise be compromised." I know people who routinely bring aboard a case of their favourite wine or scotch.

On long distance trains I usually bring aboard some libation for use in our private compartment. VIA Rail doesn't mind as long as you keep it in your accommodation. Edited by david,Mississauga
