Luggage question

On previous cruises with HA, we've always "surrendered" our luggage prior to boarding and found our bags in our cabins when we arrived. On our next cruise, our friends and I plan to have one carry on and one backpack each. We'd like to keep our luggage with us the entire time. Does HA take the bags for convenience of their passengers or is it a security issue (checking baggage before it goes on board)? Has anyone had difficulty keeping their luggage with them during embarkation?

You're welcome to carry your luggage on board. Your carry on and backpack will be screened in a similar fashion at the pier, as you do when you go through security at the airport.

You should be fine. Carry-on luggage is also scanned, so there would be no security issue. Think airlines, except that you don't have to stow those bags under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin! :)

Never had a problem keeping our carry-on luggage with us. Full-sized luggage, the size airlines require you to check, won't fit through most of the x-ray machines at the security checkpoints so those have to be turned over. Of course we look like refugees with all our luggage so no way I'd even consider keeping with us even if we could get them through the checkpoint.

Don't know when you last cruised on HAL, but a couple of years ago HAL started a new program where they try to have the cabins ready 11:30 when boarding begins. This way you can take your carry-ons and back packs to your cabin and then go to lunch or do whatever you want without having to tote them around.
