what if you don't spend all your onboard credit.

What happens to the remaining onboard credit if its not all used? is there any way to get the cash back.

If it's non-reFUNdable (see what I did there) credit, you won't get it back.

Best thing to do is use it up - or do the casino trick :)

Don't know for sure how Carnival handles it, but on the other two cruise lines I've been on, it depends on the source of the OBC.

If you have OBC that's a "gift" from your TA, or part of the package for booking the cruise, that's non-refundable (use it or lose it).

If you have OBC, because someone (or you) applied monies to your onboard account before the beginning of the cruise, that's refundable to the source it came from (if purchased with a credit card, it goes back as a credit to the card, if purchased with gift cards, it goes back on the gift card, if it was paid for in cash, then you get the cash back).

Not sure about that, we had a CC account and I was able to cash out at the end of the cruise. On another CC funded cruise I had a cash balance and forgot about it. Six weeks later I got a check in the mail.

The intent of what you posted is 100% correct, true OBC stays onboard, funded OBC is returned.

This would be OBC from a price drop by changing room type.

Chances are, unless you have really massive amount of OBC, there won't be any left.

Typically, any charges to an onboard account (drinks, photos, souvenirs, tips) will be deducted from any OBC first, before being charged to a credit card or cash payment that you made to your account.

But, if you have enough that you're unsure that you'll use it all, ask Carnival how they view it. Whether it's refundable or not.

If you do nothing, they will issue you a cheque. No sure whether you will get it with your folio statement or they will mail it out to you. I think I have heard the latter. However, you can go to Guest Services on the last night and they will give it to you in cash. That's what I did on one of my cruises. On others, I have put it on my S & S card via the slot machine in the casino, played a few games and then cashed out the amount in my account. Sometimes less than what I put on the card and sometimes more, depending on my luck ...lol.

FYI, they will credit your tips and purchases from it first so unless you have a large amount of OBC, it can be used up before the end of the cruise.

Whatever you do, don't use "cruise cash". You buy it on the website. It's a dollar for dollar lock up of your money. After you apply it to the cruise - you can only use it for that cruise. If you don't, Carnival keeps it. It's the goofiest, most customer unfriendly and cynical program I've ever seen. Carnival is a fantastic corporation, who brings a great product for a reasonable price. I know that this adds some to the bottom line - but it seems very out of character for them. :(

Someone noted to me that this program is meant as a gift for someone taking a cruise. True enough (though I'm not sure why it needs to be locked up) - However, it shouldn't be used as a cruise onboard expense savings program ~ :o Save that for your bank account ~

So, in other words, non-refundable OBC is not refundable...but refundable OBC is refundable....and if you don't get the refundable OBC from guest service or play the casino cash out game, Carnival will send you a check....less than 2 weeks after your cruise.

Did you get it through the Early Saver Price Protection form before you changed rooms? If so, I think the Price Protection form says its a non-refundable OBC. .but someone did mention something about a casino trick.. and I can't remember what it was now? but some way that you can put money into a machine, then tell them you don't want to gamble with it, and I think it goes back on your S&S as cash OBC ... I think.. not sure?

Forget the casino...go to the Kiosk and use your s&s and withdraw it in cash.

You can't cash out non-refundable OBC from the kiosks - it shows up in a different area on your portfolio. Also, on my last two cruises, I have tried to get money from the kiosks on the last night of the cruise and they were empty both times (and I tried multiple kiosks). I was thankful for my FTTF sticker at that moment because I bypassed a massive line at guest services each time.

We prepaid tips and got OBC. Tried hard to use it as it was non=refundable. We did a good job and ended up with a 35 cent bill. They actually billed Discover. Lowest charge we've ever made. LOL

You go to the casino, put the remainder on a slot machine, play one hand then cash out.

It will convert it to casino winnings and they will refund the remainder!

I use my OBC to pay the gratuities. I had setup the initial booking to prepay them but then realized I would have OBC and had them remove the prepaid gratuities.
