I can't find the answer to this Cheers question....

We are sailing on a B2B next cruise. We've decided to do Cheers for the first leg. My question is this....I'm sure that we'll get our money's worth on the alcoholic beverages, but I'm also hoping to stockpile some sodas/mixers for the second leg. Does anyone know if you can get full cans of soda as part of the Cheers package? I was thinking that most nights we will have way less than 15 drinks used, so a few times during the day we could collect a can each from the bar and stow them. I typically order from Bon Voyage and order cans from the bartenders, but I wasn't sure if they would allow unopened cans to count towards Cheers. For our second leg, we hope to take advantage of Duty Free liquor purchased the last night of our first leg.

I should also mention that we have "Drinks on Us" from the get-go, so the only way that Cheers would benefit us is if we could also collect soda for the cabin. There's no way between access to the two that we'd be using up our 15 drink max.

When we have done the Cheers the soda has always been given in a glass. We were told it was like the soda card no cans given out.

Is there a reason you can't stock up on soda/mixers at the ports for much cheaper? Am I right in understanding that you want Cheers solely for sodas?

No, I envisioned trying to get the best of both worlds. We'll be flying down to Charleston and doing a B2B on the Fantasy (2 @5 days). What I hoped was to use the Cheers program for the first 5 days to sort of break even with what it would have cost to buy Bon Voyage, plus we avoid the hike from the hotel to get mixers for leg 1. We get free drinks in the casino, but that just creates a tether that we really don't need for 10 days, lol! For leg 2, we could buy duty free on the last night of leg one and have mixers stocked up from week 1. There's nothing stopping us from lugging them back from Harris Teeter while docked in Charleston, I was just trying to help justify the cost....especially since we don't have to pay for alcohol assuming we run to the casino when we want a drink. If they won't give us cans then that won't work. We still may do it because we spend so much on Bon Voyage anyway.

I would just bring on a couple 12 packs of soda...and you can replenish your stock in port if needed. We bought a couple extra 12 packs on our stop in San Juan on one cruise and no one said a word when we carried them back on the ship!

We also brought extra wine back on from port too!

The next cruise after this one is on the Sunshine and that's a no-brainer. With the variety of bars and specialty drinks to choose from we'll get our money's worth easily. It's just that on the Fantasy I'm not sure that we won't stick to our tried and true drinks....which we could easily make using BV.

I meant just grabbing a six pack or something similar while in the port of calls.

I'm obviously not doing a very good job of explaining, lol! I was hoping to buy Cheers for the first leg of our B2B and have a continued benefit on the second leg....i.e. using the stocked up mixers, not buying Cheers for both legs.

The point is, we don't quite break even with Cheers vs. Bon Voyage, but we would if I had $20 worth of sodas saved up to use on the second leg with my duty free liquor.

What can I say? I'm trying to get the system to work for me.

OK, I get it now. I never thought BV cost would be that close to Cheers. ;)

It didn't used to be, but our last cruise it was nearly $250.00 including the mixers. Add to that the required frou-frou drinks at embarkation...usually close to $60, and the assorted that you get when you want something different than your BV drink, another $100, the occasional soda....Cheers doesn't looks so bad for a 5 day.

so what you're saying is this. doing a B2B

Buying Cheers on first leg. Use it to get sodas.

Have free drinks in casino for second leg.

I understood that. But it just seems soooo much cheaper to just get a 12 pack or whatever at each port. Now by saying mixers to most people that would be whatever you add the alcohol to. If you are meaning mixers as in the alcohol you are putting IN the soda, can't help you with that.

If you need the sodas to make it worth while, you might want to consider just paying for your beverages and then ordering mixers (soda and juice) through the Bon Voyage website to be delivered to your cabin (it's $10 for 6 cans - cheaper than buying individually on board).

They normally do Bon Voyage and the Bon Voyage price will be within $20 of the Cheers price. If they can get $20 worth of soda mixers using Cheers for the next leg, then it is break even. So, if they can get the mixers using Cheers, they will just do Cheers the first leg and not BV. They are using liquor bought on the ship for the second leg.

Just go up to the bar, show your card and ask for the can. That's what my daughter did all the time with Bottomless Bubbles. She then would put them in the ice bucket to get cold so she could drink it out of the can later. Worked on the Ecstacy.

Thanks, I think that we'll try it. It's really so close in price if you factor in everything that we spend including BV, tipping the bartenders in the casino for the "free" drinks, the extra drinks when we don't use BV, and sodas that it's worth it not to have to keep track of the Tervis Tumbler....and that doesn't even count the $$$ spent while we're sitting at a machine waiting for that "free" drink, lol! If it works, it works; if it doesn't, no biggie.

I really am looking forward to having Cheers on the Sunshine though. With all of the assorted bars and their specialty drinks it will be nice to try the variety. We just sailed on the Freedom on a Premiere Cruise and spent way too much time in the casino enjoying those "free" drinks. I want to try the Alchemy and Havana Bars and spend some more time in Red Frog the next cruise. With all of the options, I can easily see us buying 4-5 specialty cocktails each a day...and then it's totally worth it.

You know During your first leg buy a few bottles of duty free liquor that will be delivered to your cabin the last night of leg 1.

That will be a lot cheaper than Bon voyage.

Even if you had to buy soda you would be way ahead.

But like others have said just buy mixers on shore and carry them back onboard. get the best of both worlds.

On my B2B next year, besides beer, I will probably order a few glasses of alcohol "neat" and store in empty rum runner or water bottle for 2nd leg. I will buy Cheers on the first leg. Some days I don't drink at all, and some days I might have 4 or 5...if I take advantage of 15 drink limit, I should have enough to last me 21 days.

Yes, that's what we are counting on for leg 2. In fact, we are planning on buying the last night so that we can actually carry it back ourselves, just in case they hold it because we're B2B.
