Santiago and lima airports

How much time is needed for check in and security at the international airport in Santiago, Chile? Our flight back to the US departs at 10:25pm. We are travelling in Biz Class on LAN, so I'm assuming that we have access to their lounge. Just wanted to know how early you suggest we get to the airport? I know that EZE in BA tends to be a 'zoo'..Is it similar at Santiago Airport?

Addtionally, on the the return flight back to the US..we make a stop over at Lima, Peru. I can't get a consistent answer fromTA or LAN rep as to whether there is a change of aircraft? The flight # is the same from Santiago to Lima and from Lima to US.

The reason I ask is that there only appears to be a one hour connection time at Lima.....if its the same plane..then we are ok..if we need to change aircraft..no so sure if thats enogh time!

Any guidance would be appreciated

Thank you!

J

Is it the same flight number?? If so don't worry.

Lima is a rather small airport also.

3 hours is fine for check in at Santiago. The queue lines for LAN are long and slow --however in Biz should have no issues.

I always like to be early! We have been in both airports. Santiago is very nice, and business class should get you right through. Lima wasn't too great, but that was a few years ago, and maybe it has improved. Have a great trip!

If you got off the plane while in Lima, don't buy any drinks. They will confiscate them before they allow you to board the plane. We went through security and fortunately did not purchase any drinks while in the waiting area, but before anyone was allowed to board the plane, their hand luggage had to be searched by hand again and they confiscated all liquids that were not regulation size and all drinks.

Interesting, last year flew from Lima to Cuzco and return; no inspection getting on the plane in Lima and very strangely, in Cuzco they don't have X-Ray machines for checked luggage so have to open checked luggage before checking at the counter and they told us to take all liquids out of the to be checked bag and put them in our carry-ons. Yes, no misprint. We then went thru security without any issues with our liquids including larger than 100 ml and even pop bottles and pop cups in plain view. We though it very strange but, it did happen.

Nobody in security batted an eye as people were carrying bottles of liquid thru the scanners.

They don't take it away for internal flights, only international. We were allowed to take with us to Cuzco to, but were caught on the way back to LA not being able to have drinks. Funny how it varies between international and domestic flights.

In November 2013, they checked hand luggage by hand AND by scanner in Juliaca (Lake Titcaca airport). They were looking for pressurized spray bottles such as hair spray etc. We did not have any liquids, so I cannot say whether they would have taken them. And yes, no liquids in Lima, hand luggage was checked again right at the gate. Obviously, they don't trust their vendors between security and gate.
